Tata Motors is on a roll as it plans to bring the CURVV coupe-SUV in the mid-size segment pretty soon.
The latest spy media once again gives us a good look at the silhouette of the production-spec Tata CURVV. CURVV concept was showcased by Tata Motors last year where it was displaying its future concept, designs and technologies. That is where the fully electric Avinya was also present. In fact, there are many reports suggesting that the CURVV SUV could have internal combustion, as well as electric powertrains.

Tata CURVV to Have Panoramic Sunroof
The coupe silhouette is clearly visible in the latest spy media. Tata said that the production variant will bear a lot of resemblance with the concept car. It certainly looks that way. In earlier spy media, we even saw the cavity for a giant panoramic sunroof. We can expect Tata to offer it since its rivals in this segment also get it. Soft parts like the headlights, bumper, alloy wheels, etc. are missing as this is merely the body-shell. Also, the spotted car could be a part of the carmaker’s trial production programme for its upcoming coupe-SUV.

Specs
What’s intriguing about the CURVV SUV is its planned release with a full range of powertrain options: petrol, diesel, and electric. Regarding the petrol variant, it may feature a new 1.5-liter turbocharged engine delivering 125 hp and 250 Nm of peak power and torque. The diesel version is expected to utilize the same engine found in the Nexon, a 1.5-litre turbo diesel generating 115 hp and 260 Nm of peak power and torque. There will be manual and automatic transmission options with both these trims. However, details about the electric powertrain remain uncertain. Nevertheless, as the launch date approaches (first quarter of 2024), we anticipate gaining more information. In all honesty, the future looks promising for this Indian automotive giant.

What We Think
The mid-size SUV segment in India is highly competitive. There are SUVs from all major car marques. Hence, to launch a brand-new product in this category is quite a challenge. But Tata Motors understands the needs of the customers. As a result, it will have the last mover’s advantage. It knows the favourite features of the potential buyers (like panoramic sunroof) and the price point they are happy with. It can position the CURVV accordingly. The rivals in this segment include the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, MG Astor, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the recently launched Honda Elevate. Hence, the competition will be tough.
