Tata has announced the price increase of the already booked Tata Nano cars which were booked initially at price of Rs. 1 Lakh for the first one lakh customers. This price increase will be applicable for the BS4 engine variants which is mandatory for 13 cities as applicable from April 1 2010. The cities where the BS4 emission norms have been implemented, will get only BS4 variants. As per Tata about 25% of the total bookings are from such cities.
The price of the Tata Nano BS-IV variants will costlier by about Rs. 5000 to 7000 as expected in the on-road price. This change will be intimated to the customers who have already booked their cars at the old price. If the customers are not willing to pay the extra amount, they can cancel the booking and get their booking amount back. Tata is not willing to bear the additional cost of Engine upgrade. The rising costs and upcoming competition by Ultra Low Cost Car By Bajaj will give a tough time for Tata Nano in years to come.
