Premier Rio is an ambitious SUV and is well known for its very affordable price. The car was launched in 2009 with a BS III compliant engine but with the implementation of new BS IV norms, the company is unable to introduce it to prospective buyers from cities with BS IV norms.
For this the company has been working hard and stated in their annual report that a new BS IV compliant model will be launched soon. After 15 long years since Premier, one of the oldest company, parted ways with Fiat in India, both are to join hands once again for the sake of Premier Rio low cost SUV.
Premier is going to source the popular 1.3 Liter Multijet CRDI diesel engine from Fiat and the car will get the same by as early as January 2012.

The 1.3 L Multijet engine is one of the most popular engine and powers some high selling models like 2011 Maruti Swift, Maruti Swift Dzire, Tata Indica Vista etc. The same features power, reliability and economy all in one. Once the Rio gets the Multijet the company will be able to introduce it in the remaining 13 major BS IV cities.
Since the car will get the new engine in 2012, we could expect its official launch at the upcoming 2012 Auto Expo. I hope along with the engine the company works on the car’s overall fit and finish as well so as to make Rio a better product.
