At the recently concluded event organized by Mahindra in South Africa, the Scorpio N-based Global Pik Up was revealed. Mahindra has the tradition of giving a glimpse of behind the scenes on Independence Day on August 15. This time, the event took place in Cape Town, SA. While the main spotlight was on the Thar.e, the Global Pik Up also garnered a lot of attention. Now, the Chief Design Officer at Mahindra, Pratap Bose reveals the initial design sketches of this prominent pickup truck. Here are the details.

Mahindra Global Pik Up Concept
These images come from the Instagram handle of Pratap Bose. They capture the entire design process using digital tools. One could clearly see the resemblance with the regular Scorpio N on which this concept is based. At the front, there is that rugged plate on the bumper to make it look sturdy and indestructible, vertical LED fog lamps/DRLs, a massive black grille with a prominent Mahindra logo at the centre, an upright stance, square wheel arches, colossal alloys, a neat cargo compartment with grab rails, a solid bumper at the rear and a dual-cabin silhouette. All in all, it certainly looks like a meaner version of the regular Scorpio N.

These sketches come from the MIDS (Mahindra India Design Studio) team in Mumbai. The production version will be based on the next-gen ladder-frame chassis. That will bear appropriate elements for a decent Global NCAP and Euro NCAP safety rating. The launch is slated for South Africa, Australia and India by 2025. Note that the South African market is huge for such pickup trucks which they call Bakkies there. Similarly, there is a huge market in Australia for such capable off-roaders. Hence, it would be interesting to see how successful could this concept become in its production form.

Specs
Mahindra mentions that this pickup will have the Gen-ll all-aluminium nHawk diesel engine based on the existing unit which will have either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission from Aisin. It goes without saying that the pickup truck will come with a 4×4 configuration with shift-on-the-fly capabilities. In fact, that would be the main attraction of the truck. It will have four drive modes – Normal, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Rut and Sand. Outside SA, Australia and India, it could also come with the turbo petrol mill. More details will be available closer to the launch.
