Polaris has launched the Sportsman 570 ATV in India for a price of Rs 7.99 lakhs, but in order to make it road-legal in India, they have categorized it as a tractor.
You might have heard about Polaris and their all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) but you probably might have never seen one on the road. Well, that’s because none of Polaris’s ATVs in India were road-legal and were used in off-road terrains only. That has now changed as Polaris has launched their first road-legal ATV in India – the Sportsman 570 – for a special introductory price of Rs 7.99 lakhs, (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Its only an introductory price and it will later to up to Rs 8.49 lakh, ex-showroom. But how Polaris made this ATV legal for the road is even more interesting. Polaris has categorized the Sportsman 570 as a tractor in order to make it road-legal and has been aimed towards agricultural sector users.
The Sportsman 570 is a true all-terrain vehicle as it comes with knobby tires, a high ground clearance and typical ATV like body-work. However, it can even be fitted with farming equipment like pesticide sprayer, cultivator, disc harrow and utility cart. Polaris has also given the Sportsman 570 a backrest for the pillion.

The Sportsman 570 is powered by a 567cc, 4-stroke engine that produces maximum power of 34bhp. The ATV also boasts of features like electronic fuel-injection system, a four-wheel-drive (4WD) layout and 280mm of ground clearance. Polaris is also offering road-side assistance (RSA) and one year extended warranty with the Sportsman 570.

Being classified as a tractor, there’s a catch tough. The Sportsman 570 has to adhere to all the current norms for tractor in India, one of them being having an electronically limited speed of 60 kph. As long as this ATV follows all restrictions in place for tractors in India, it can be used on any road, absolutely legally. The only other road-legal ATV in India is the Powerland 900D. That too is categorized as a tractor in India.
