On the occasion of the India Energy Week (IEW), PM Modi flagged off the E20-ready versions of the Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun. This is in line with the Government’s and carmaker’s carbon-neutral initiatives for the future.
PM Narendra Modi unveils the E20-ready Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun mid-size SUVs at the India Energy Week (IEW). The event was organized by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) as a part of India’s G20 Presidency flagship event in Bengaluru. The current government and carmakers are trying their best to meet the environmental goals of becoming carbon-neutral. That is where such events come into the picture. PM Modi Unveils E20-ready Kushaq and Taigun
The E20 version of a car refers to the powertrain that can support the E20 fuel which is a mixture of 20% Ethanol and 80% Fuel. This arrangement is aimed at reducing the country’s overall oil imports. It has already been successful in many other countries and Brazil is a prime example of it. Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun supporting E20 configuration highlight the direction the carmakers and the government are heading in to support measures against climate change.

Volkswagen Group has announced its plans of going carbon-neutral by 2050. In fact, its Aurangabad manufacturing facility has already transitioned to 100% ‘Green’ energy in November last year (2022) although the original plan was to achieve this by 2025. Going forward, VW plans to achieve a 48% reduction in CO2 every year. Similarly, its Pune facility has one of the largest rooftop solar power plants fulfilling almost 30% of its annual energy needs.

The Executive Director of Sales, Marketing and Digital at Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd. (SAVWIPL), Christian Cahn von Seelen was quoted saying, “The successful transformation of the automotive sector into low-emission mobility requires close cooperation between the government and industry. We are happy to partner with the Indian Government in its Net Zero mission.
