In a turn of events that can be best described as hilarious, a photo of a young man riding a motorcycle with ”Grandson of Nagercoil MLA MR Gandhi” written on the number plate went viral. But the actual hilarity ensued only after some netizens pointed out that the BJP MLA in question here is unmarried!

It may be noted that MR Gandhi is a BJP MLA from the Nagercoil constituency of the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. Many netizens started criticizing the MLA as well as the motorcycle rider as soon as the video went viral. One netizen said,”Such is the audacity and missuse of power in Tamil Nadu. It beats movie stories.” While another said,”That is his qualification!” Yet another wrote, “If ‘Tu janta nahi mera Dada kaun hai’ had a number plate.” Soon, however, some netizens started pointing out that Gandhi never got married.
Later, though, the man riding the motorcycle was identified by News18 as one Amrish, the son of MLA’s aide, Kannan. The photo went viral when a road user spotted Amrish riding his motorcycle without any helmet and with the number plate reading “Grandson of Nagercoil MLA MR Gandhi.” As if the blatant violation of traffic rules wasn’t enough, the fact that the rider claimed to be related to an MLA further enraged social media users. Gandhi, who formed an alliance with the AIADMK in the state assembly elections, won by four seats. The 73-year-old leader became an MLA for after first time since he has been contesting elections since 1980. He finally won in 2021 state assembly elections of Tamil Nadu after losing for six times in a row.

MR Gandhi has been known to be a symbol of simplicity and can be seen going to the state assembly in a simple jippa and dhoti and without any slippers. He opted to stay unmarried as he wished to focus on the welfare of the society. On the other hand, the youth spotted riding the motorcycle is the son of Kannan, the driver of MR Gandhi for several years. Gandhi is known to have been fond of Kannan’s family and has great affection for them. This incident is quite similar to another incident that took place in UP recently. Three UP men were caught by a cop for riding a motorcycle with a number plate that read- “Bol dena Pal saheb aaye the.” The men were locked up and their photo was shared by Auraiya SP Abhishek Verma. UP Police, in fact, went on to Tweet sarcastically, “Main ‘pal’ do ‘pal’ ka rider hoon; ‘pal’ do ‘pal’ meri kahaani hai.”
