Peugeot and Citroen who are planning to set up a facility in India and were on a lookout for months have finally found the best location for them. Gujarat which is already the hometown of many of the manufacturers in India, is where Peugeot Citroen duo will plant their facility in.
With an investment of Rs. 4000 Crore the facility will be built at Sanand in Gujarat which is also the home to Tata Nano and new Ford Factory. Before finalizing Gujarat as the place for the facility, the automaker was considering Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh but eventually the latter two could not appeal as much as Gujarat did.
A decade back Peugeot was in existence in the market through a joint venture with PAL but later they called for a quit. Now after so long the brand is planning to re-enter India along with Citroen. The firm is planning to build one of the biggest automotive facility and will produce around 3 lakh units annually. The allocated site covers almost 40 acres of land and is 40 km from Ahmedabad in a village called Bol in Sanand Taluka.
Most probably the company will roll in Peugeot 207 small car and Peugeot 508 sedan which were recently spied during their usual test runs on the roads of Pune. Besides this Citroen is also expected to launch one or two of its global model line-up. As per sources , before the mid of 2012 there will no launches from the manufacturer’s side but we eagerly are waiting to see them on the Indian turf soon.
