The Peugeot 3008 SUV has been seen testing in India for the first time ever. Note that we also reported the smaller 2008 being tested on our roads on a couple of occasions in recent times. Therefore, a lot of speculations are floating around with regard to what’s the purpose behind this. Note that Peugeot and Citroen have the same parent company, Stellantis. Therefore, it is possible that Peugeot would want to leverage the experience and local manufacturing prowess of Citroen to launch its vehicles in our market as well.

Peugeot 3008 SUV Spotted Testing in India
This image comes from Autocar India. As per the available details, the large SUV was spotted near Pune, Maharashtra. The rear section of the SUV bears the typical LED taillamps connected via a glossy black light bar. In addition to that, there is a rugged bumper with a dual exhaust tip to accentuate the sportiness. There is also a roof-mounted spoiler along with roof rails. On the sides, there are rugged side body claddings, stylish alloy wheels and chrome frame underneath the window and black side pillars. At the front, there are striking LED headlamps, a broad grille and a sporty bumper. Hence, it sports the typical Peugeot design philosophy.

Tata Harrier Connection
We also came across reports which are suggesting that the Peugeot 3008 was testing alongside the Tata Harrier. Hence, it could mean that the French carmaker was benchmarking against the Harrier. This leads us to believe that the Indian auto giant could also be preparing for a launch in overseas markets. Still, we can’t confirm or deny this hypothesis. In any case, it is interesting to see how this pans out in both cases whether Peugeot plans to enter the Indian market or Tata Motors desire to go international.

Author’s Note
The Peugeot 3008 can be thought of as the counterpart of the Citroen C5 Aircross. Both these are based on the EMP2 platform along with many other Stellantis products. Apart from that, the international model comes with multiple powertrain options including a 1.2-litre petrol, a 1.5-litre diesel, a self-charging hybrid, as well as a plug-in hybrid. If Peugeot decides to come to our shores, it would be interesting to see which engine-transmission combination it comes with.
