However, these bailouts come with certain conditions. In Pakistan’s case, the IMF asked it to cut its defence budget allocation by 10-20%. But, unsurprisingly perhaps, Pakistan increased its defence budget by a whopping 16% compared to the previous year. What’s worse is that they increased the taxes of petrol and diesel. This led to the unprecedented fuel prices the country is currently witnessing. That is in line with how well it treats it Army. It also, unequivocally, goes to reveal just how little they think of their citizens.

What Locals Say
The poor citizens are left with no option but to curtail the use of vehicles. They simply can’t afford to travel in their cars. The situation with food and electricity is already crippling the economy. Many of them can’t afford fruits and vegetables. This increase in fuel prices will directly lead to further increase in the food prices as the transport of the commodities will get more expensive. The interview with the locals narrates their pitiful condition. They are evidently frustrated with this situation. But they can’t do anything about it as long as the government keeps prioritizing the Army above everything else.
