Maruti has crossed the 2 Lakh BS-6 cars sale mark in India, with its 8 compliant vehicles in the market. The list includes Alto 800, WagonR, XL6, Swift and more.
The trend of BS-6 vehicles is growing, as more people are getting aware and the manufacturers are updating as well. Like Maruti has already launched EIGHT BS-6 vehicles in India, starting from April 2019. And now, Maruti has sold over 2 Lakh units of its BS-6 models in India.
Maruti BS-6 cars range now includes the S-Presso as its latest launch. It first launched the Baleno and Alto 800 with BS-6 engines back in April. Following which, WagonR (1.2L), Swift, Dzire, Ertiga and then XL6 got their engines.
Engine-wise, Maruti currently has six engines throughout its range, four petrol and two diesel engines. Barring the diesel engines, all other engines are now BS-6 compliant. Its just that the Alto K10 and WagonR 1.0 Litre will soon get their BS-6 engines.

Commenting on the milestone, Mr Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “We thank customers who have opted for our BS6 range of vehicles. We believe that mass adoption is one of the most important factors for the success of any new technology. Offering eight BS6 compliant petrol vehicles in the mass segment, much ahead of timeline, has helped us to reach this technology to a larger customer base.”
Meanwhile, petrol pumps have also started offering BS-6 petrol. Most of the pumps in Delhi NCR now give BS-6 petrol. Also, the compliant cars run on BS-4 fuel, without any concern.
As known, Maruti is not going to update the 1.3 Litre DDiS diesel engine with BS-6 norms. It is an old engine that is actually taken from Fiat. It recently developed the 1.5 Litre diesel engine with Smart-Hybrid system.
