In this latest case, an aftermarket car modification house has converted an old 2017 Toyota Fortuner into a 2024 Legender. I have reported numerous instances where car shops have been able to achieve this feat. They have access to the latest technology and spare parts from all over the world to transform any vehicle into any other car. This latest case is a prime example of that. Fortuner is the most successful 7-seat off-roader in our market. It has been so since Ford quit manufacturing cars in India back in 2021. That led to the discontinuation of the Endeavour, the only worthy rival to the Fortuner. But that has resulted in the prices of the Fortuner shooting up exponentially. Hence, people often use their old Fortuner SUVs and apply body kits to make them look like the new model.
Old Toyota Fortuner Converted to New Legender
This video comes from autogalleryranibagh on Instagram. At first glance, one can’t tell this ‘Legender’ apart from the real one. At the front, it gets the entire body kit of the Legender. This includes sleek LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs and turn indicators, fog lamps, a slim black grille, a sporty bumper and a rugged skid plate area. On the sides, we get to witness the dual-tone effect with a black roof and side pillars. To protect the paint from the natural elements and extend the life of the paint, the car shop has applied ceramic coating on the surface.
The door handles are finished in black colour with hydro-dipping. The host then takes the viewers to the rear. Here, the car shop has installed LED pillar lights, LED taillamps with a gloss black panel connecting them on either side. At the bottom, the Fortuner gets a new bumper from the Legender with chrome elements. All in all, it is hard for anyone to recognize that the real model underneath the cosmetic enhancements is a 2017 Fortuner. The host mentions that this costs just Rs 89,000. Intriguingly, he mentions that you stand a chance to win a TVS Jupiter if you come for this Legender body kit. I can’t confirm the veracity of this offer or the conditions attached to it.
Our View
Admittedly, I have been reporting such cases for a while now. Somehow, Toyota Fortuner is the most frequently used SUV for such activities. The reason could be simple. The Japanese carmaker is known for offering reliable engines and vehicles. Hence, in most cases, the condition of the Fortuner is excellent when it comes to the engine and mechanicals but the exterior is obviously worn out. Therefore, a body kit could fix the aesthetics and make an older model look like a new one. Hence, I understand the appeal of such customizations. I would like to caution our readers about the legalities of it though. You must consult your local RTO before going for these modifications.
