Aftermarket car modification houses have a knack for creating unimaginable iterations of regular cars
In this post, we get to witness a rather enticing iteration of the old-gen Mahindra Thar 5-door courtesy of a car shop. Remember, the old Thar was a 3-door model. However, after the arrival of the Thar Roxx, some car customization shops have been offering the old Thar owners an opportunity to convert their SUVs into 5-door versions. Needless to say, it requires some hardcore modifications and mechanical work since the new Thar Roxx has an extended wheelbase but the car shop professionals have to work with the limited wheelbase of the old Thar.
Old-Gen Mahindra Thar 5-door
The specifics of this case stem from daya_karan on Instagram. The vlogger is at Khan Motors from Moga, Punjab. In the visuals, we see the old CRDe Thar with a unique stance. Somehow, the car modification house has been able to extend the length of the old Thar to accommodate two additional rear doors. The roof has been extended appropriately along with a new rear section. Just by increasing the length and adding two doors, the entire demeanour of the vehicle has been transformed. There are some more elements to elevate its road presence.
For instance, the Thar gets colossal 33-inch off-roading tyres with steel rims for ultimate traction and adventure. In addition, there is useful LED lighting installed on the bonnet and A-pillars to enhance visibility during the night rides. Apart from that, it gets rugged side steps to accentuate the ingress and egress traits along with plush upholstery including powered rear seats. To lend hardcore off-roading capabilities, we also see a solid winch installed on the bumper at the front. This will help it pull other cars out of tricky situations. All in all, this has to be among the most simple, yet practical conversions of the old Thar.
My View
I must mention here that you should make sure to visit only experienced mechanics for such modifications. However, you should remember that such car customizations are illegal in India. If the traffic Police catch you, you will need to pay the fine and they could even ask you to remove the aftermarket components. Hence, you should consult your local RTO before performing such extreme work on your car. Having said that, if it is meant to be used in rural environments or as a passion project, you might keep it.
