The Okinawa Cruiser electric Maxi Scooter has a range of about 75-80km, a top-speed of 100kph, takes 3-8 hours to fully charge and will launch in mid-2020.
Towards the end of January 2020, Okinawa had dropped a certain teaser which previewed an electric maxi scooter. It was pegged to be the first of its kind in the electric scooter space in India. Okinawa has now unveiled that maxi-scooter at the 2020 Auto Expo and its called the ‘Cruiser’. The Okinawa Cruiser intends to offer a big scooter feel and in our mind, we can only compare it to the Suzuki Burgman Street 125 in terms of dimensions.
The Okinawa Cruiser is powered by a 3kW brushless motor and has a claimed top-speed of 100 kph. Okinawa claims that the Cruiser will have a range of about 120km but we expect the rear world range to be around 75-80km. Now that keeps it at par with one of its rivals, the Ather 450.
The Okinawa Cruiser uses a 4kWh lithium-ion battery. The Ather 450 uses a 2.4kWh lithium-ion battery. However, with a similar range, you would expect the Okinawa to take about the same time as the Ather, which is about 4 hours. However, the Okinawa Cruiser takes 3-8 hours to be fully charged via a conventional power socket. If there’s fast cahrging however, the scooter can be charged in about 2-3 hours.

The Okinawa Cruiser comes quite decently equipped. On the features front, the scooter gets full LED headlights, a semi-digital instrument console, front-disc brakes and also extra storage behind the front apron, keyless entry, mobile charging, central locking with anti-theft alarm, cruise speed lock, and some connected features like Find my scooter function.

Lastly, on the styling front, the Okinawa Cruiser seems a bit blown out of proportions. The bulky head with a narrow tail section does not make for a very good design. The flashy paint job was also quite on your face and it even gets some graphics. Both the face and tail end are dominated by large headlamp and tail lamp clusters. The swingarm also has a rather weird panel stuck on it. Okinawa is expected to launch this scooter by mid-2020.
