The upcoming Mahindra Thar Roxx is looking promising as details leak online regarding the exterior and interior of the 5-door off-roader.
Mahindra Thar Roxx is among the most wildly anticipated SUVs in our market and the interior and exterior have already been leaked. Remember the launch is slated for August 15. I have reported the 5-door Thar, which we now know will be called Roxx, performing rugged testing in extreme regions of our country. This includes the treacherous terrains of the Himalayas, the sand dunes of the desert and modern highways. Hence, it is clear that the Indian auto giant wants to ensure that the SUV is capable of taking on any challenge. For now, let us take a look at the details.

We know that the Mahindra Thar Roxx will be based on the same platform as the Scorpio N. Hence, we can expect a spacious interior and a huge boot space. Note that while the Scorpio N is a three-row SUV, the Thar Roxx will only have two rows. This clarifies that the legroom, headroom and boot compartment will be appropriately generous. The recently leaked spy media even captured the slightly premium and more comfortable-looking upholstery to keep the passengers at ease during highway runs or off-roading runs.
Specs
While the Indian SUV maker has not offered any official announcement regarding the powertrain options, I expect it to carry the familiar 1.5-litre turbo diesel, a 2.0-litre turbo petrol or a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine. Complementing these engines will be either a manual or an automatic transmission. Apart from that, it will benefit from a sophisticated 4×4 configuration which will lend it immense capabilities to traverse across just about any terrain out there. To keep costs in check, we could also see the RWD variant which has done well on the sales charts even on the 3-door Thar. Specific details will emerge at the launch.
Our View
The Mahindra Thar Roxx will be launched to remedy the shortcomings of the 3-door Thar. Existing Thar owners complained of the lack of practicality due to just 2 doors and a compact boot. That makes it quite challenging for families to travel together. But with the extended wheelbase of the Mahindra Thar Roxx, the practicality quotient will increase significantly. As a result, the SUV is bound to cater to a wider range of audiences without compromising on its DNA of being an impressive off-roading machine.
