The Minister of Roads Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, was spotted checking out the new MG Windsor. Windsor is the latest EV from the Chinese-owned British car marque in India. Among many things, it is creating a lot of buzz in the market for being the first EV to offer BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service). Essentially, the buyers can buy the vehicle and rent the battery. Hence, they will need to pay MG a monthly rental based on the usage. The aim is to reduce the financial burden on the potential buyers upfront. Apart from that, the powertrain includes a 38 kWh battery pack with LFP chemistry and Prismatic Cell Structure. It powers an electric motor which generates a decent 136 PS and 200 Nm of peak power and torque. On a single charge, MG claims a range of 331 km. With an efficient Battery Management System (BMS), the performance of the battery is optimised even during extreme weather conditions. Buyers also get the MG e-Shield Package which offers 3 years of unlimited warranty, 3 years of RSA and 3 years of Labour-free maintenance services. With MG eHUB, buyers get one year free public charging. The prices without the battery start at Rs 9.99 lakh with Rs 3.5 per km battery rental. If you wish to buy the battery too, the retail sticker reads Rs 13.50 lakh to Rs 15.50 lakh, ex-showroom.
