Renault recently unveiled the Renault Pulse during the Formula One Indian Grand Prix which is a premium version of the not so successful hatchback, Nissan Micra. The car has been showcased but the official launch and pricing is yet to be disclosed by the company, however the company has announced that it will be launched during the 2012 Auto Expo.
The Micra and Pulse share the same platform and that is why most of the design cues and components, including the engine, are the same. Interestingly in the past Nissan CEO had hinted a number of times that they will be developing a small car based on the Micra but smaller than Micra.
Now more interestingly at the launch of the Pulse Carlos Ghosn, Renault-Nissan CEO has indicated that soon Renault will come up with a sub-Pulse small car model in competition with the upcoming Volkswagen Up and Hyundai i10. The car will be based on A-platform which will be jointly developed by Renault and Nissan. Once again just like Micra and Pulse, the new sub-Micra/sub-Pulse small car is said to be launched by both Nissan and Renault separately with their own unique names and styling, though the components will remain the same.
As of now the timeline has not been declared but the launch is expected to take place by 2013-14. It seems that the B-segment is attracting more than expected number of products. Volkswagen Up, Skoda CitiGo, Seat Mii are some of the aspiring products for this segment and we wish to see cut throat competition in this segment too.
