Nissan has issued recalls of over 800k vehicles in Canada and the US for a potential issue with the key of the cars that could shut the engine down while driving.
Recalls are quite common all around the world as Nissan issues a recall of over 800k vehicles in Canada and the US. Recalls are issued when a carmaker notices an issue with the cars or with the production facility. There are distinct batches of manufactured cars that could have an issue due to tooling or other such cases. As a result, carmakers give out a notice to the affected batch to get the issue fixed. Nissan Recalls Over 800k Cars in Canada and the US
Nissan announced that there is some issue with the key of its SUVs. The affected cars include certain Rogue models that were in production from 2014 to 2020. In addition, there are some Rogue Sports models from 2017 to 2022 also that have this issue. Reportedly, these vehicles have a jackknife folding key for the operation which doesn’t stay fully open. Now, when these are put in the ignition panel, the driver could accidentally hit it causing the engine to shut down while driving.

That is because the key could fold partially and come out of its place. With modern cars, almost all the components are electrically operated or controlled. Hence, one could experience power steering failure, power brakes failure, electric assist failure in many components, the airbags can’t get deployed as the sensors won’t work, the parking sensors will stop working and more. Hence, if you are driving at high speed on a highway, it could be an awkward position for you to be in and could take some time before coming to a standstill.

Nissan says that no accident has been reported so far due to this issue. That is why it wants to fix it before things get messy. The owners will be notified in March about the solution and asked to bring their cars to their nearest dealerships. Car owners whose keys don’t stay in the open position can then head to the service centre to get the repairs done.
