Fresh reports confirm that Nissan will launch the Magnite sub-compact SUV in India in May this year. A couple of months later, Renault will also launch one.
Nissan is working on the new Magnite sub-compact SUV for the Indian market. Over the past couple of years, the sub-compact SUV segment has seen tremendous growth and that’s why all the automakers want a share of the growth.
Nissan had confirmed in December itself that they were working on a sub-compact SUV. Now, the media reports suggest that the launch is due in May 2020. Magnite will be based on the CMF-A+ platform that is also used with the Triber.
Magnite will use the new 1.0 Litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, that should produce between 95 BHP to 100 BHP. There are chances that the base variants could go with the naturally aspirated unit from Triber, which pump out around 69 BHP. The engine will come mated to a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT.

Reports also suggest that the Nissan Magnite will get features such as steering mounted audio controls, automatic climate control and electric sunroof. Interestingly, Magnite might then become the first car from the Nissan and Renault stable to get these features.
Going by the silhouette, Nissan’s subcompact SUV will look a bit similar to to the Kicks. If Magnite inherits the same roughness and well-built behaviour of Nissan Kicks, it would be great. The latter might not be a good selling SUV but is well appreciated when it comes to sturdiness.
Similarly, Renault is also working on Kiger, a sub-compact SUV built on the same platform. Both will share the engines and platforms along with the features list. The spy shots denote than Kiger could take some coupe-styled SUV type design bits.
Both of them are expected to undercut the prices of their rivalling sub-4-metre SUVs. The prices of these models start off at around Rs 6 to Rs 6.5 Lakhs (Ex-showroom). Possibly, Magnite and Kiger might see their top-end variants priced under Rs 8 Lakhs.

By undercutting the prices, Nissan and Renault could see more attraction from the buyers. Triber is one such example which has managed to garner good sales numbers since its launch. Also, provided if the lockdown does not continue, we will see the launch in May.
