Nissan is going to use a 1.3 Litre turbo-petrol engine that will also come on Duster. That will make it the most powerful SUV in the 15 Lakhs range.
While most of the cars managed to receive BS6 compliant engines just before the lockdown, many popular cars are still left. Among them, Nissan Kicks is one model which is yet to receive its BS6 upgrade. Until yesterday, there was no status of the updated SUV, but now Nissan has dropped a bomb.
Nissan is going to launch the BS6 compliant Kicks with a new 1.3 Litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine. It’s the same engine that will soon make its way on Renault Duster as well. We are not sure if the 1.4 Litre petrol engine will be upgraded or not. Due to the emission norms, Kicks will no longer come with a diesel engine.

The 1.3 Litre unit produces 156 BHP and 254 Nm of peak torque, making it the most powerful SUV under 15 Lakhs. Even Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta come with a turbo-petrol engine, but Kicks will produce nearly 13 BHP more. Kicks is even more powerful than MG Hector which produces 143 BHP. Compass offers the same power figures with its 1.4 Litre turbo-petrol unit.
Being the most powerful and torquiest of its lot is certainly bound to help increase the sales of Kicks. Especially, with the loss of its diesel engine, Nissan needs to gather more buyers for petrol. Earlier, the SUV came with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. However, with its BS6 upgrade, Kicks will also get a CVT gearbox.
The turbo-petrol engine will come with the options of a manual and a CVT gearbox. If Nissan manages to upgrade its existing petrol engine, it would be offered on base variants of Kicks. BS6 Nissan Kicks will only get a new and upgraded engine only. There will not be any other changes made to the SUV.

As of now, the Kicks petrol is priced from Rs 9.55 Lakhs up to Rs 10.95 Lakhs. The diesel variants are priced from Rs 9.89 Lakhs to Rs 13.69 Lakhs (all prices ex-showroom). Expect Nissan to hike up the prices by at least a Lakh that too, depending on if its existing engine is discontinued or not.
