The Renault Bigster will be the 7-seat iteration of the upcoming Duster and a Nissan counterpart will also be launched in India.
Nissan will launch a new SUV in our market that, we expect, to be based on the Renault Bigster. Nissan is amidst the process of expanding its footprint in India. It wants to be a part of one of the world’s fastest-growing automobile markets. As a part of the expansion plan, it recently unveiled the fourth generation X-Trail. Apart from that, a Magnite facelift is also on the way. Furthermore, the Indian customers will also get re-acquainted with the Terrano (Nissan’s Renault Duster counterpart) after the launch of the Duster. Finally, the 7-seat iteration of the Duster/Terrano will be the Bigster from Renault. There is no official name for it from Nissan yet.
Nissan Confirms 7-seat SUV, Likely Based on Renault Bigster
In recent times, there have been multiple spy shots of the upcoming Renault Bigster from different parts of Europe. Note that it will go on sale in Europe in the coming months. Since it will be a 7-seat iteration of the Duster itself, it will borrow the exterior styling, as well as cabin layout and configuration. Hence, we will witness a large infotainment display, multi-purpose steering wheel with controls, a 7-seat layout, blind spot monitoring, ADAS, smartphone mirroring, automatic climate control, digital driver’s instrument cluster, tilt and telescopic adjustment for the steering wheel and much more. The exterior highlights could include a sleek grille section adorned with LED lighting, an upright stance, large alloy wheels and an imposing overall demeanour.
Under the hood, it will most likely share the powertrains with the Renault Duster. It comes with three engine options in the international market – a 1.0-litre 3-cyl LPG + Petrol unit with 100 hp, a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine with mild hybrid tech generating 130 hp and a 1.6-litre 4-cyl hybrid engine which outputs a healthy 140 hp of peak power. Complimenting these engines will be manual and automatic transmissions. Also, buyers will get the choice to select between 2WD and AWD configurations.

Our View
Nissan has been in India since 2005. However, it has not been able to achieve tremendous heights. The competition in recent years has been fierce. As a result, Nissan just has one product in its portfolio – the Magnite. Thankfully, it has been doing great on the sales charts. The cumulative domestic sales have crossed 1 lakh units with over 30,000 units each year in the last 3 years. With the X-Trail, and Duster and Bigster counterparts, the Japanese carmaker wants to grab a large chunk of market share going forward.
