The 2020 Mercedes Benz GLA sports new styling and completely new interiors. Its based on the A-Class hatchback and it will share its powertrains with the A-Class and the GLB.
Mercedes Benz’s baby SUV, the GLA is due a generation change this year. The 2020 Mercedes Benz GLA has been spotted testing internationally in its production spec. This is the first major update for the GLA and it is expected to be showcased at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The new Mercedes Benz GLA sports Mercedes’ latest design language to fit in the family and it gets brand new interiors as well.
The Mercedes Benz GLA is based on the A-class hatchback and in essence, it looks much like an A-class on steroids. The sleek headlamps and the Mercedes’ latest ‘eyebrow’ DRLs along with the front grille seem to have directly come from the A-Class. The bumpers have also been slightly redesigned. From the sides, the 10-spoke alloy wheels and the squat stance gives the new GLA more of a crossover stance than a proper SUV. At the rear, the GLA will get new split tail lamps and other design bits from the GLB SUV.
It is on the inside that the next-gen Mercedes-Benz GLA sees to most significant changes. Until now, the GLA carried the last generation of Mercedes’ interiors with an entire slew of buttons on the center console. The new GLA is finally going to get Mercedes’ latest interior design with the dual screens doubling up as the instrument cluster and the infotainment system. The infotainment system will likely be a touchscreen unit with the latest generation of Mercedes’ MBUX user interface. Below the two screens sit three turbine-styled AC vents and the controls for them down below.
The 2020 Mercedes Benz GLA is based on the MFA2 platform (Mercedes Front-drive Architecture) that also underpins other front-wheel drive cars from Mercedes Benz. The 2020 GLA is also expected to share its powertrains with the A-Class and the GLB. There will be a base 1.3-litre petrol engine that churns out 163PS and 250Nm of torque. This engine will come mated to a 7-speed DCT.

Furthermore, there will also be a 2.0-litre diesel engine in tow states of tune – 150PS/320Nm and 190PS/400Nm. Of course, there will be the AMG variants of the GLA but there’s still some time for them to come. There will be a GLA35 with 302PS and full blown GLA45 with 416PS of power.
