The Maruti Eeco is the sole leader in the commercial and private Van segment in India and has been for the longest time. Now, the time for the update has come.
The 2022 Maruti Eeco Van is due for a facelift and the images of the next-gen model have been leaked on the internet. Eeco has ruled the Indian roads as a commercial/personal passenger carrier, as well as a delivery vehicle in the cargo variant. The applications of the Eeco are practically endless. Its low maintenance cost, reliability associated with Maruti and practicality are its unique selling points. The Eeco also comes with the option of a CNG powertrain enhancing its appeal in the face of rising fuel prices. While people were expecting a major design overhaul, the leaked images indicate otherwise. In fact, many publications and Youtube channels had even used images of the Suzuki APV sold abroad as a representational image for the latest Ecco. But it looks like the reality is a lot different.

It was expected that the next-gen MPV will be quite distinct compared to the current-gen model. However, the leaked images clearly indicate that the changes to the outside are fairly limited. The boxy design of the existing model has been rounded from the edges, the headlamps and bumpers have been tweaked a little but that is about it. One will need to look closely to establish a clear distinction between the two models. There is not much information regarding the interior changes. But going by the limited modifications to the exterior, it could be inferred that not a lot will be changed on the interior either. It will carry on being a utilitarian vehicle with the basic features and conveniences.

However, the issue could be the government’s decision to make 6 airbags mandatory for all cars after the law gets passed. That would require substantial changes to the structure of the body. Even in that case, the Cargo variant might get away with the regular 2 airbags but all the other vehicles with the saying capacity of up to 8 passengers must satisfy the regulation once it is implemented.

Specs
The existing Eeco comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that churns out a healthy 72 hp and 98 Nm of peak power and torque. In the CNG version, the Eeco van makes 62 hp and 85 Nm of peak power and torque. There is a 5-speed manual gearbox mated to this engine. Maruti is most likely to continue with this powertrain even in the updated version. It retails between Rs 4.63 lakh and Rs 5.94 lakh, ex-showroom at present. The updated version will command a premium over these prices. We will bring more information on the MPV once Maruti shares some.
