There are reports claiming that the next-gen Mahindra XUV500 will be featuring a segment-first advanced driver assistance systems, also making it the most affordable car in the Indian market to be offered with such features.
Mahindra has working on the next-gen XUV500 for quite some time now and a couple of days ago, we also reported to you with a close-to-production spec test mule of the next-gen XUV500. Now there are reports which are claiming that the next-gen Mahindra XUV500 will even come with advanced driver assistance systems. If these reports are to be believed, then the Mahindra XUV500 will be the first Indian vehicle to be offered with driver assistance systems. It will also be the most affordable car in the Indian market to boast of advanced driver assistance systems, dethroning the MG Gloster of that position currently.
Mahindra has actually partnered with a South Korean company called Mando Corporation, who are set to supply a DCU (domain control unit), radar, and camera for ADAS. There’s no doubt about the added safety and peace of mind that such autonomous systems bring to the board, something that’s particularly of great relevance on Indian roads. It also adds to the convenience is some day to day driving scenarios. Mahindra first previewed this technology on the autonomous-supported Marazzo that was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020.
The XUV500 could thus be the first Mahindra vehicle to feature these systems, as is being speculated looking at the spy images of the next-gen XUV500. It will be Level 1 autonomous tech if anything at all, and will come with features such as drowsiness detection, blindspot detection, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. Even a few years ago, such tech were only offered in high-end luxury cars like Audi’s and Mercedes’ but the MG Gloster broke the norm by making it a little more affordable. If its really on the XUV500, it will be game-changing feature in the sub-Rs 20 lakh price range.
