The next-generation Hyundai Sonata, in sync with the current generation iteration, might skip a launch of the Indian market altogether.
Hyundai has commenced testing the next-generation iteration of its premium sedan, the Sonata for the international markets. The sedan, which used to be on sale in the Indian market sometime back, for its next-gen avatar, is likely to come with solar panels on its roof. A test mule of the same has been spotted recently showcasing what looks like solar cells harvesting the natural energy.
The next-generation iteration of the Hyundai Sonata could feature a plug-in hybrid system. With the help of the said solar panels on its roof, the new Sonata might be able to clock a range of 51 km on pure electric energy.

The new generation update for the Sonata is going to feature Hyundai all-new Sensuous Sportiness design language which was first showcased through the HDC-1 concept. As a result of this, the vehicle seen in the images looks quite sleek and hence projects a very sporty appeal.
The interiors of the Hyundai Sonata are likely to get a futuristic design. For instance, the dashboard is likely to get a sleek design while the instrument cluster could go completely digital.

The engine specifications of the new Hyundai Sonata are still a matter of discussion and speculations. We expect that the new iteration of this premium sedan will ideally continue using the 2.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine. The diesel derivative, if considered, could include a 1.6-litre unit sourced from the Tucson.
For the international markets, the launch of the new Hyundai Sonata is likely to take place by the end of this year. As far as the Indian market is concerned, we do not expect Hyundai to launch the new Sonata, just like it we did not get the current Hyundai Sonata.
