The next-generation Honda City is expected to make its global debut this year. Its India launch is likely to happen sometime during the first half of 2020.
With buyers now slowly drifting towards SUVs, sedans in an equivalent price segment have been feeling the heat with reduced sales all across the world. In India however, the compact and sub-compact sedans have been doing relatively well. In fact, for the year 2018, it was an under 4-meter sedan, i.e. the Maruti Suzuki Dzire which ranked as the best selling car in our country.
ONE: Placed in a segment above, the Honda City and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz have been pulling out a reasonably good number for their respective brands, the former doing so for almost two decades now through its four generations. Yes, we are talking about the Honda City. Currently running its fourth generation iteration in India, this C-segment sedan is soon going to receive a major (fifth generation) update by the end of this year. The next-generation Honda City will make its global debut by 2019 end and eventually reach Indian shores sometime during the first half of 2020.

TWO: It is likely to be based on an all-new platform and hence sport a bigger and wider foot-print. The City, in its current iteration, is already quite spacious and with a further increase in length will offer more space on the inside. In terms of its design, reports state that the new Honda City will take its inspiration from the Honda Insight prototype. This will essentially make it look sleeker and hence sportier in comparison to the model that it will replace.
THREE: On the inside, Honda is likely to leave no stone turned when it comes to offering a premium experience. With its quest for projecting itself as a budget manufacturer coming to an end, Honda aims at once again establish itself as a manufacturer of premium cars in our country. This will also result in the new city offering a considerable number of features and creature comforts on board.

FOUR: The engine specifications of the next-generation Honda City are still under the wraps. What we do know is that its primary power train option is going to be a petrol engine. In addition to this, there will be a hybrid variant on offer as well. Whether Honda decided to offer a diesel derivative remains to be seen. Since the cost of using a
FIVE: Transmission options will continue to include manual as well as automatic options. There have been rumours suggesting that if Honda brings a diesel derivative for the new City, it is likely to come with an automatic transmission. Prices will continue to fall in-between the price range of INR 10 lakh to INR 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
