In a bid to appeal to the enthusiasts, the next-gen BWW M3 and M4 will be getting a manual transmission option as has been confirmed by BMW M Boss, Markus Flasch.
A good manual gearbox makes the driving experience of any car so much more engaging and enjoyable that an autobox will never be able to match. Recent trends has seen all major manufacturers shift to automatic gearboxes in all their cars for the sake of conveniences. Even the recently revealed Corvette C8 has ditched the manual. You can only find a couple of Porsche’s these days with manual gearboxes. But BMW here has surprised us as there’s going to be a manual transmission in the next-gen M3 and M4.
BMW M Boss, Markus Flasch, has recently told a publication that the next-gen M3 and M4 will be offered with a manual transmission option. We haven’t seen a manual transmission from BMW for ages, so this certainly comes as a surprise. But it sure is pleasant to see BMW cater to enthusiasts rather catering to the mass market for once.
Not much is known about the next-gen BMW M3 and M4 coupes, let alone their manual transmission variants. However, the two M coupes have been spotted testing a few times wrapped in camouflaged livery. As much as can be understood from over the wraps, the new cars are expected to get some cosmetic changes with the most obvious being the larger kidney grille.

The next-gen BMW M3 and M4 coupes are likely to be powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six petrol engine. It is expected to churn out 473PS of power which could go up to 502PS in the competition model. There will be rear wheel drive variants of both cars but the more powerful versions will be all-wheel drive only – a first for both the M3 and M4. The manual transmission will be offered only on the rear wheel-drive variants of BMW M3 and the M4 while the automatic transmission will be offered on all variants.

The next-gen BMW M3 and the M4 are expected to make their official debut somewhere around mid-2020 in the international market. They will be brought to India soon after but we are unsure if the manual variants of the M3 and the M4 will be offered here in India. We just hope it does.
