Designers at Audi have decided to keep the overall profile of the old car with changes being made according to the company’s new design language showcased by the Prologue concept. The styling is edgier than before with a sharper hexagonal grille, similar to what we’ve seen on the new Q3 facelift, flanked by more rectangular headlamps and huge air intakes. Towards the side the the next gen Audi R8 might get a more conventional air intake design which will be more angular keeping in line with the overall design language. The car is instantly recognizable as an R8 from behind albeit with sharper looking tail lamps and LED detailing.
The latest generation of the Audi R8 will be based on the Lamborghini Huracan sharing the same platform and materials. The next gen Audi R8 is expected to be 59kg lighter than the current car and might borrow some tech from the new Audi TT including the fancy TFT instrument cluster. When launched the car will be powered by the same V8 and V10 engines doing duty on the current R8 tuned differently to generate more power. These two engines will be joined by a smaller turbocharged petrol at a later stage. All engines will be coupled to a 7 speed dual clutch automatic transmission powering the Quattro AWD system.
