Toyota has been bringing new avatars and special editions of the Fortuner for quite some time now but it might be time to see an actual new-gen model too.
The next-gen 2022 Toyota Fortuner is something that the fans are eagerly waiting for. Ever since the discontinuation of the Ford Endeavour (Fortuner’s arch rival) in India, Toyota is ensuring that it captures the entire large-size SUV segment for itself. In a bid to achieve that, it has brought in a number of special edition versions of the Fortuner including the Legender and GR-Sport. But it is time that the regular version gets a complete model replacement.

On the sides, the alloy wheels will be the prime distinguishing factor between the current-gen and the next-gen models. The doors will also feature the side steps for enhanced ingress and egress, the blacked-out side pillars will continue from the current model to give that floating roof effect. There might be the inclusion of some ADAS functions. This image does not relay the rear section but the SUV might feature sleek LED taillamps and a sporty bumper for that adventurous look.

Specs
As far as the powertrain options go, Toyota might introduce some form of electrification to the existing engines. In its current iteration, the Fortuner comes powered by a 2.7-liter petrol unit (164 bhp / 245 Nm) and a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel engine (201 bhp / 420 Nm). It is paired with a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options. With the automatic transmission, the torque produced is a massive 500 Nm with the diesel mill. There is plenty of off-roading equipment on offer to make it immensely capable in terrains without tarmac roads.
