Maruti is developing India’s most preferred hatchback – Maruti WagonR – and is all set to get a major uplift. Wagon R gets a new shape, new design elements with a load of modern features. Let’s see what 6 major upgrades have been made to the hatchback.
Maruti WagonR has been spied a lot of times during their testing drives. Recently, it was spotted camouflaged in Shimla, conducting high altitude test drives. Based on the images, it can be said that the hatchback has been thoroughly updated. WagonR is likely to receive a host of upgrades, which include a facelift to its dated styling. Currently, it is India’s one of the most selling hatchbacks with more than 20 Lakh units sold till now.

Following are the top 6 changes that the hatchback will get:
Design:
Maruti WagonR will retain its ‘tall – boy’ stance and is carries somewhat the same shape. The images show that the rear window of the car will be shortened and the side windows will be larger than the earlier models. In the front, it gets an LED headlamps similar to Maruti Solio, which has hit the roads in Japan. The front grille gets a little classy yet aggressive. It will be made on Maruti Suzuki’s newest HEARTEC platform, hence making the hatchback lighter than usual. Lighter platform indicates better pickup and improved fuel economy.

Features:
Maruti WagonR will be technology savvy after the new facelift. It will no longer come with the standard equipment. The top end will get Apple Car Play with Android Auto and a decent sized touch infotainment screen. The Japanese version of the car comes with Daylight Running Lamps, which is reported to be fitted in the Indian version too. There will be an integrated 2 DIN system with Bluetooth, aux, and USB with Steering audio controls. For the riding comfort, it will get reverse parking assist with reverse camera, keyless entry, and automatic climate control. However, most of the features would be offered in the top – end variant only.
Safety:
Maruti WagonR will get 2 airbags and ABS as a standard fitting in all the variants. The top end might get six airbags, ABS with EBD. Also, the new HEARTECT platform will play its role in case of any collision or other accident. The lightweight platform is designed to reinforce the body of the car and make it a little safer and stronger.

Engine:
Maruti WagonR will retain the same 1.0 Litre engine and would be available in CNG and petrol variant. The petrol engine produces 65 BHP of power along with 91 NM of peak torque. However, it will receive an automatic transmission, as the demand for AMT is rising. The top variant will get a 5-speed AMT gearbox in the mix. The estimated mileage of the car is around 14km/l in the city for the manual petrol and it will be close to 13km/l for the AMT. The CNG will give a mileage of approximately 30km/kg. On the highway, the Wagon R will return about 18km/l on the manual and AMT petrol.
Interiors:
The details have not been revealed yet but it is speculated that the hatchback might get a bigger cabin space. It will have plenty of storage space onboard, similar to all the WagonR versions. The quality and finish of the materials are going to be decent. We expect Maruti to stick to a single tone colour scheme for the cabin. It is likely to be primarily black in nature with several silver accents. However, it is also said that the interiors will have black and beige interiors.

Price:
Given the modern technology that the Maruti WagonR receives, the price range might be hiked. The exact pricing details have not been mentioned yet, but is is expected to start from anything between Rs 4 Lakh to Rs 6 Lakh. With decent pricing, it will compete with most of the entry-level hatchbacks.
