We’re in a time today where the words “TVS” and “Apache” are considered synonyms. The bike, when launched in 2007, gave the Pulsar series of bikes a run for its money. Subsequent updates have made the bike better but the last proper update was made only in 2011. Even though TVS has done a great job in terms of providing us with excellent build quality and riding experience at a competitive price, they failed to keep up with the dynamics of the Indian bike scene; The last upgrade made in 2013 did not catch the fancy of the customers, add to that the aggressive invasion by KTM and the Pulsar NS series, the Apache was really beginning to feel the heat. Finally there is some good news for the Apache loyalists, TVS has declared a major overhaul to its ageing warrior and the new TVS Apache will be released before 2014 comes to an end.
What to expect ?
We believe that the new Apache will have feature similar to those found on the Draken-X21 concept, which was on display earlier in the year at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo.
According to the company, the Draken’s design is a “Thematic Evolution” of the Apache itself, but how they integrate feature like,
- Shorter tail
- Active digital speedometer
- Offset mono shock suspension
- Reversed free flow exhaust unit
- Full LED headlamps with daytime running lights
- Trellis sub-frame
into the beloved and proven Apache shall totally be a treat to watch out for, but keeping in mind that TVS is launching this with the “commuter-class” in sight might force them to cut some corners and the end result might not be as impeccable as it is made out to be.
Flash in the pan or the ‘Eureka’ moment ?
Will this be the what revives a flagship series of a company slipping ?
Will this be enough to combat an arsenal of BAJAJ’s and KTM’s slated to release for later in 2014 and early 2015?
Will it feel as different to its predecessors in terms of technical specifications or is it just a case of new packaging ?
There are too many questions to be answered and with TVS holding their card close to their chests, a lot of those questions shall remained unanswered today, but one thing is clear that they shall hold nothing back in this fiscal year. With a new product launch in every quarter they have shown their competitors that they mean business. Apache loyalist’s may have a long 7-months ahead of them, but it might just be worth all the wait and hype.
