Even though the new Tata Nexon is more powerful than the Maruti Fronx, it’s significantly heavier
The new Tata Nexon has already left the sub-compact SUV buyers quite excited with the slew of updates it comes with. Nexon has been one of the most popular vehicles in the fiercely competitive sub-4 meter SUV segment. However, of late, these compact SUVs have been facing heat from a small group of cars that are being touted as ‘micro SUVs’. With the Brezza already hugely popular, Maruti Suzuki has even come up with a smaller candidate in the form of the Fronx. In terms of pricing, there’s a definite overlap with the Nexon. While both excel in several areas, a recent video shows which one of the two is more potent in a drag race.

New Tata Nexon vs Maruti Fronx Turbo
The video of the drag race between the new Tata Nexon and the Maruti Fronx has been put online by Power On Wheel on their Youtube channel. The video commences with an introduction of both the SUVs by the host. He goes on to state that the Fronx is the latest addition to Maruti’s lineup. It’s also the only crossover-ish SUV in the carmaker’s product portfolio. Next, he proceeds to introduce the other contender in the drag race, the newly launched Nexon facelift.
Subsequently, the presenter states the specifications of both vehicles. The Fronx in this drag race gets the 1.0-litre Boosterjet Turbo petrol motor. This 1.0-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged Boosterjet engine outputs 100 bhp and 148 Nm of torque. While the video presenter mentions the Nexon facelift offers 88 PS, it’s actually the more power of the two vehicles with a maximum power of 120 PS and 170 Nm. However, the video mistakenly mentions that the Nexon facelift generates around 88 PS of power. In reality, the Nexon facelift has a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder turboc petrol engine that produces a maximum power-torque of 120 PS-170 Nm.

Fronx Easily Wins Both the Rounds
Following this, the video host gets into the driver’s seat in the Nexon facelift. Another person takes control of the Fronx. They position both vehicles on the starting line for the drag race. As a signal, a cloth is thrown in the air by another individual. As soon as the cloth drops, the Maruti Fronx surges ahead of the Tata Nexon, creating a significant gap between them. Despite the Nexon being in Sports mode in both the runs, the Fronx wins the race with ease.
Subsequently, during their return, the presenter switches from the Nexon facelift to the Fronx’s driver’s seat, while the Fronx driver takes the Nexon facelift. After swapping cars, the presenter instructs that the drag race will commence after the third horn beep from him. When the third horn beep sounds, the Fronx once again accelerates effectively from the starting line, leaving the Nexon facelift, driven by the presenter, trailing behind. Thanks to the stronger specs, one might expect the Nexon facelift to easily outpace the Fronx Turbo in a race. However, this anticipated outcome does not materialize. The main explanation for this outcome is the power-to-weight ratio. While the Nexon facelift appears more powerful on paper, it also carries a heavier weight. This gives the Fronx a clear advantage.
