In an unexpected incident, a unit of the recently refreshed Tata Nexon was seen engulfed in fire. The Nexon has been the most popular car in its class, with it regularly outclassing rivals like the Maruti Brezza. In fact, the sub-compact SUV has been the choice of many first time SUV buyers. Much of this can be attributed to the car’s 5-star NCAP safety rating, good ride quality, adequate performance and correct pricing. On top of it, the recent facelift makes the car quite a looker. In such a scenario, a brand new Nexon catching fire certainly leaves prospective buyers in two minds. That said, it’s important to note that the reason for this fire is not yet known.

Tata Nexon Facelift Seen Engulfed in Flames
A video doing rounds of social media shows a new Tata Nexon, parked in the left-most lane, going up in flames. While the video claims this to be the EV version, a quick look at the rear bumper immediately reveals the end-can. Also, the voices in the background aren’t clear, but it looks like the video is being shot by the owner of the vehicle. The exact cause remains unclear, but the last frame reveals that the car has been totally damaged. Thankfully, no one seems to have got hurt in this mishap. Also, from the looks of it, the people whose voices can be faintly heard seem to be at a safe distance. This is crucial as the fuel inside the vehicle can lead to a pretty big explosion. I urge all readers to ensure being away from vehicles in fire emergencies, as burning parts may become projectiles.
New Tata Nexon is on sale with two engine options – a 1.2-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. Both offer pretty decent performance. The petrol engine outputs 120 hp and 170 Nm. Meanwhile, the diesel engine produces 115 hp and 260 Nm. Both the motors can be bought with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed AMT. In fact, the petrol variant even offers a 5-speed manual transmission and a 7-speed DCT on select variants. This helps it cater to a wider customer base. Prices range from Rs 8.10 lakh to Rs 15.50 lakh, ex-showroom.

Author’s Note
Such videos, while providing glimpses of incidents, might not present a comprehensive view. In this instance, it’s crucial to avoid premature judgments due to the missing details. Instances of vehicle modifications at aftermarket shops have been known to contribute to fires. Yet another reason for such fires is storage of inflammable objects inside the car. However, at this stage, even potential manufacturing defects can’t be ruled out. Hence, rather than making hasty conclusions, it’s advisable to await results of a thorough investigation by the carmaker. For now, let’s just say that we’re happy that no one seems to have got hurt in this sad incident.
