Tata Nano was among the most affordable vehicles in the world at one point in time
The internet is full of news pertaining to the launch of the new Tata Nano. Remember, Nano is an iconic name in the Indian automobile industry. The late Ratan Tata had a vision to make a four-wheeler car affordable for just about everyone in India. In fact, the main aim was to make people upgrade from two-wheelers to cars. As a consequence, Tata Nano was incepted back in 2008 with a price tag of an unbelievable Rs 1 lakh. It remained in production for 10 years until 2018. Finally, due to low demand and people getting a bit conscious about the tag of the cheapest car, it was discontinued. In the last couple of years, we have been hearing rumours about the Nano making a comeback.
New Tata Nano Leaked?
This video comes to us courtesy of Harsh VLOGS on YouTube. The host mentions that he has come across some AI-generated renderings of the upcoming Tata Nano. Before that, he mentions that a prominent website has covered this news which says that there is planning to launch the new Nano as a tribute to the late Ratan Tata. The design concept contains a modern front section with sleek LED DRLs at the edge of the bonnet with a gloss black panel between them while the main headlamp cluster is located on the extreme edges of the bumper. Furthermore, the entire front section is sealed off indicating its electric credentials.
Interestingly, there is also the rendering of the rear section. It gets a roof-mounted spoiler, a shark fin antenna, compact LED taillamps, a black panel between the taillights, a distinct bootlid with sharp creases and a sporty bumper with a skid plate underneath. The side section contains elegant alloy wheels and chunky wheel arches. On the inside, the report says that we might see a digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment unit, power windows, AC, a spacious cabin, a music system, etc. The estimated price is Rs 2.5 lakh.
My View
Now I have been covering reports about the possible resurrection of the Tata Nano for a few years now. In all honesty, I wouldn’t read too much into such stories. The entry-level car segment is already struggling for sales as seen from the product lineup of Maruti Suzuki. People are looking to buy bigger cars in general which is why segments like micro SUVs and compact SUVs have emerged in recent years. Still, it will be interesting to see more stories on this going forward but I wouldn’t get my hopes too high.
