A new spy shot of the MG Gloster reveals three badges on its rear – 4WD, ADAS and Internet Inside – all suggesting the various features that would be on offer and four wheel drive is the latest confirmation.
The MG Gloster is going to be the next big launch from MG Motors in India. The Gloster has already been making headlines after MG Motors released a video last week teasing that the SUV will come with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Now, a fresh image of an uncamouflaged Gloster spied testing in India in production ready form has surfaced on the internet that reveals it will come with a four-wheel-drive system.
The model that was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo did not come wearing any badges at the rear other than its name. However, the Gloster is this spy shot can be seen wearing three badges on its tail gate, all of them denoting some feature that the SUV has to boast about. The newest of them is the 4WD badge which suggest that the Gloster will come with on-demand four-wheel-drive. And that’s only apt in order to take the competition to the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavor and Mahindra Alturas G4, all of which come with 4×4 system. The Gloster however will have a much more premium positioning than them.
Next up, there’s the ‘ADAS’ badge which suggest the advanced driver assistance features the Gloster will pack. This includes features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, frontal collision warning and hands-free auto-parking. Some of these features are only found on some high-end luxury cars in India and it makes the Gloster quite unique to be offered with these features. Lastly, there’s the ‘Internet Inside’ badge which we have already seen on the Hector and ZS EV. Like all other MG cars in India, the Gloster too will come with connected car features.
There’s another interesting detail that has surfaced with this new spy image and that’s the styling at the rear end with quad exhaust and a subtle rear diffuser. This was not seen on the show car at the Auto Expo and it would be really cool if it makes it into production. Although it will come with a four-wheel-drive system, MG Motors clearly wants to pitch the Gloster as a full-blown luxury SUV to create some differentiation with other popular ladder-frame, seven-seat SUVs on sale.
The Gloster will also be notably larger than all its competitors. Some other notable feature onboard will include a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster, three-zone climate control, cooled/heated seats, a panoramic sunroof and a 360-degree camera on the range topping trims. Safety features such as lane assist, auto parking function, six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, 360-degree camera and much more are expected to come onboard.

Under the hood, the Gloster will come with a 2.0 Litre turbo petrol engine that produces 220 bhp and 360 Nm and will be mated either to a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. There are reports suggesting that it could also get the newly developed 2.0 Litre twin-turbo diesel that belts out 218hp and 480Nm of peak torque. Internationally, this diesel engine comes paired to an eight-speed automatic sourced from ZF. Abroad, the Gloster is even offered with drive modes – Rock, Sand and Snow modes for off-road use – but it remains to be seen if these are offered in India.
