Royal Enfield is reportedly developing a new 250cc motorcycle to make its mark in the entry-level premium segment. The sales of the company are going down.
Everyone wants a share of the ever growing entry-level premium motorcycle segment. Talk about premium two-wheeler makers or even commuter-motorcycle specialists, everyone.
Now, ET reports that Royal Enfield is working towards a new 250cc motorcycle for the India market. Interestingly, many premium manufacturers are developing their scaled-down versions for this segment itself, rivalling the might of RE.
As per the report, Royal Enfield is currently doing a market research for the new model. The launch is likely to happen in the next few years, expected by 2023.

As we see, manufacturers like Hero Motocorp, Yamaha, TVS, Suzuki, Honda and Bajaj have specifically started focusing on motorcycles above 150cc. Not the commuter ones, but performance ones indeed.
From the high-end side, we see Husqvarna, Triumph and Harley Davidson trying their hand on this 250-500cc segment. While Husqvarna is going to debut soon, the latter two are doing this to increase their overall sales.
Also, the sales of Royal Enfield have been going down for the past few months now. The unexpected slump in the sales has also resulted in the negative sales of Classic 350, which is its best-seller.

Reports say that the 250cc engine will be completely new and not a scaled down version of an engine. Most likely, this engine, as well as the platform, will spawn more models in future as well.
There is no idea on how the Royal Enfield 250cc motorcycle will look, but it could get its design similar to that of Interceptor or Classic series. We would actually like the motorcycle in the Interceptor version.
The upcoming motorcycle might be designed and developed at RE’s UK technical centre, where the 650 Twins were also developed. So, there are chances that it could be a global product as well.

Once launched in India, it can go against the likes of all the 200-250cc motorcycles in India. That would include the Apache RTR 200 4V, Pulsar NS200, Bajaj Avenger 220 and many other models priced between Rs 1 Lakhs to Rs 1.3 Lakhs.
