The MG ZS is not just sold in India but also across various international markets with varied powertrains
The new MG ZS Hybrid has been unveiled abroad and we might even get it in India. MG is a popular car marque, particularly in the UK, which is its native land. Hence, it is common for any new model to stem from there and then move to other parts of the world. In India, MG has been around since 2019 when it launched the Hector mid-size SUV. Thereafter, we got the 3-row iteration of this SUV christened the Hector Plus. We even have the Astor which is the ICE iteration of the ZS EV. Talking about EVs, MG sells ZS EV, Comet EV and Windsor EV in our market. However, there is no hybrid model on sale.
New MG ZS Hybrid – Engine and Specs
The new MG ZS Hybrid comes with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine (102 PS) with an electric motor (136 PS / 250 Nm). The combined power output stands at a colossal 196 PS and 250 Nm of torque. That is a lot for a vehicle of this size. This propels the mid-size SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.7 seconds. The SUV also gets a 1.83 kWh battery pack which is recharged by a 45 kW generator. This leads to short spells of pure electric driving. That contributes heavily towards a decent fuel economy.

New MG ZS Hybrid – Price and Launch
In the UK, the MG ZS Hybrid starts at £21,995 (approx. Rs 24.13 lakh). It will be interesting to see what it will cost if it makes it to India. I must say, with the kind of focus MG is displaying on electrifying its portfolio, it is not out of the question that we could get this model here as well. However, we can’t say when the launch will take place just yet.
New MG ZS Hybrid – Interior and Features
This video from BEST OTO showcases the cabin of the new SUV. The interior is sporty with a black theme. I like the elegant elements like the gear lever, central console, rectangular steering wheel with multimedia controls and the positioning of the AC vents. Also, the soft-touch materials on the dashboard and centre console elevate the premium quotient of the vehicle. This video even showcases the cavernous boot space on offer. Let us glance at the top highlights which will attract a lot of buyers. While these are the amenities on offer on the UK model, if this SUV makes it to our shores, we will also get most of these.

New MG ZS Hybrid – Design
This is where we are able to see a clear distinction between the ZS EV and the ZS Hybrid. At the front, it gets a sleek LED headlamp cluster with integrated LED DRLs connected by a thin chrome belt. Underneath the lights, we get to witness a huge grille section with a mesh pattern and striking elements on the extreme corners of the bumper. In the centre area, there is a rugged skid plate finished in silver theme. On the sides, the bold stance comes to light. There are stylish alloy wheels with black claddings around the wheel arches. It even gets sturdy side skirtings and chrome belt running under the windows. I like the faux roof rails. Finally, the tail section includes a roof-mounted spoiler, split-LED taillamps, a sporty bumper and an adventurous skid plate. All in all, the SUV certainly looks elegant.
