MG is going to showcase a new sedan for the Indian market at the 2020 Auto Expo. It will rival the likes of Civic, Corolla Altis and Elantra.
MG is going to showcase 14 new cars at the Expo, some of which will include some concepts and some production-ready models, upcoming in India soon. Reports suggest that MG is also bringing in a new sedan at the 2020 Auto Expo.
The upcoming 2020 MG sedan will be based on Baojun RC6, rebadged by MG Motor. The sedan will have a coupe-type styling with a good 180mm ground clearance. It will get a 2800mm wheelbase to rival the Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla Altis, Honda Civic and Skoda Octavia.
Reports say that MG will focus on making the sedan comfortable at the back and loaded with many premium features. It will get a twin-digital display, one housing the speedometer and other for the touchscreen infotainment.

Under the hood, expect it to get the same engine that comes on Hector. So, there’s going to be the 1.5 Litre turbo-petrol engine and the FCA-sourced 2.0 Litre diesel engine. Instead of this diesel unit, we can also see MG using its in-house developed 2.0 Litre four-cylinder unit.
However, if we see, this particular segment is not gaining the desired popularity. Instead of a 20-25 Lakh sedan, people are now preferring SUVs in the same range. Indians are starting to get a keen interest in the SUV market gradually.
If MG manages to price it aggressively, undercutting the prices of its rivals, there might be some good attraction. It does a similar thing with Hector, which is actually a mid-size SUV but also goes against compact SUVs like Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta.

By showcasing it at the 2020 Auto Expo, MG will get necessary feedback for the sedan. Based on that, MG could decide its launch period in India or whether or not, it would be a Made-In-India model. Other than that, MG also has SUVs and hatchbacks coming up at the Expo.
