At this year’s auto expo in February, country’s leading automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki showcased the Concept Future S, a prototype which will spawn an all-new compact vehicle for the Indian market. Codenamed as the Y1K for now, this new compact vehicle for India is likely to be the new Maruti Zen and take the avatar of a Micro-SUV upon launch in our country.
Speculation put the estimated time of the launch of the new Maruti Zen or the Y1K compact vehicle in India around the second half of 2019. We expect the Indo-Japanese automaker to launch this vehicle in India around the festive season next year.
Apart from the fact that Maruti is going to launch a production iteration derived out of the Concept Future S, the company has been completely silent till now regarding any other parameters considering the said vehicle.

The new Maruti Zen or the Y1K is going to be classified as a micro-SUV. Ths means that this vehicle is going to have the dimensions of a compact hatchback but the silhouette of a utility vehicle. It will find its place in-between the Alto and the Ignis is Maruti’s expansive vehicle portfolio. That said, it is likely to retail through the automaker’s Arena dealerships.

Though Maruti has not revealed an official name for this Micro-SUV as of yet, there have been rumours that it is going to be called the Zen. As a result, bringing back the famous moniker associated with Maruti’s one of the most cherished hatchbacks.

Since the new Maruti Zen or the Y1K is going to launch in India sometime around the end of year 2019, and hence close to the BS-VI deadline in April 2020, its engine are going to comply with the said emission regulation.

As the new Maruti Zen (Y1K) Micro-SUV is going to launch in India post the implementation of the deadline regularizing new safety norms, it is bound to come with a decent safety equipment as standard. In addition to adhering to front offset, side impact and pedestrian protection regulations, this vehicle will come as standard with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchorage and rear parking sensors.
Talking about the prices, we estimate a starting price of INR 4.5 lakh. The top-spec variant is likely to come with a price tag INR 6.5 lakh.
