2019 Maruti Wagon R will get the automaker’s 5th gen HEARTECT platform, two engine options, Smartplay infotainment system and increased cabin space.
Bookings for the 2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R commenced from today. Prospective customers for the new iteration of this compact hatchback can book their respective vehicles at any Maruti Suzuki dealership at a token amount of INR 11,000. The Indo-Japanese automaker is going to launch the third generation iteration of the WagonR in India by the end of this month itself.
For increased safety and better performance in the upcoming crash test regulations, Maruti Suzuki has employed the use of its 5th generation HEARTECT platform in the new WagonR. In addition to this, its 2019 update will feature driver side airbag, Anti-lock braking system, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, high-speed alert along with reverse parking sensors as standard across all variants. Top-spec trims are going to come with dual-front airbags as well as a rear parking camera.

In terms of equipment, the 2019 Maruti Wagon R is going to offer steering mounted audio controls, Maruti’s Smartplay infotainment system which offers Apple Car Play and Android Auto , day and night IRVM, power windows, electrically operated and foldable ORVMS among some other creature comforts. However, it does misses out on automatic climate control.

For the first time in Maruti Wagon R’s lifespan, the automaker has decided to provide it with a choice of two different engine options. Base variants will continue to come with the existing 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine. This unit is capable of churning out 63 BHP of power along with 90 Nm of peak torque. Top-spec and mid-spec variants will now get a new 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder unit which has been borrowed from the Swift. This engine is capable of churning out 82 BHP of power along with 114 NM of peak torque.

The transmission responsibilities in the 2019 Maruti Wagon R will be taken care of by 5-speed manual unit. IN addition to this, buyers will also have the choice to choose from a 5-speed AMT unit as well.
The 2019 Maruti Wagon R will retail in a total of three different variants namely the LXI, VXI and ZXI. The list however spans out to 7- different combinations depending upon the engine as well as the transmission option chosen (LXI, VXI (1.0), VXI (1.0)(AGS), VXI (1.2), VXI (1.2)(AGS), ZXI (1.2), ZXI (1.2)(AGS)).

When launched, the 2019 Maruti Wagon R is going to compete with the likes of Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago. Prices are expected to fall in-between the range of INR 3.5 lakh to INR 6.5 lakh.
