The third generation Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is going to retail in India at a base price of INR 4.19 lakh. However, the top-end variant is going to retail at a price of INR 5.69 lakh (ex-showroom).

The new car will justify the increase in price by offering a much better ownership experience through more features, better driving dynamics, and higher safety. The next version will be sufficient enough to fend off the competition from the likes of Tata Tiago.

For the first time, the Maruti Wagon R is going to retail in India with a choice of two engine options. Maruti Suzuki has decided that the third generation iteration of this compact hatchback, for its base three variants will continue with the current 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder k-Series engine. On the other hand, its mid and top-spec variants will be given its 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder K-series petrol engine.
To put things in perspective, the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder engine is capable of churning out 62 BHP of power along with 90 Nm of peak torque. As before, it will continue to come with a 5-speed manual gearbox along with the option of a 5-speed AMT unit.
The 1.2-litre engine, which currently does its duty on the Swift, Dzire, Ignis and the Baleno, is capable of churning out 82 BHP of power along with 114 Nm of peak torque. Just like its 3-cylinder cousin, this engine is also available with a 5-speed manual transmission along with a 5-speed AMT unit. With this more powerful engine in its kitty, the WagonR will now match up to its competition, the Tata Tiago in terms of the outright power and torque figures, which it lacked due to the 1.0-litre motor.

As the new 2019 Wagon R will use the same engine as other models, the mileage remains unchanged. This car is capable of delivering up to 16 KMPL in the city and around 22 KMPL on the highway.

Thanks to the introduction of Suzuki’s new lightweight HEARTECT platform, the new Wagon R has grown across all its measurements. This has lead to a considerable increase in the onboard space for the passengers as well as for the luggage. The new Maruti Wagon R measures 3,655 mm in length, 1,620 mm in width and 1,675 mm in height. Its wheelbase stands at 2,435 mm while the boot-capacity stands at 340-liters
Maruti Wagon R 2019- Exterior
The 2019 Maruti Wagon R will have an all-new design that will look much more modern and attractive. That said, it will continue to have a tallboy architecture. It’s not for sure if the India-spec model will look much like the version on sale in Japan.
However, chances are that the two versions will share many design cues between them. Underpinning the new generation Wagon R will be Suzuki’s new lightweight platform that not only makes the car lighter but also safer.

Safely expect Maruti to use chrome for the grille and some other styling bits of the exterior. The headlamps will be chunkier and will carry projector setups on the top-end model.
The bumpers will be also larger and will look sportier. It is not sure if Maruti would re-launch the Stingray brand with the next-gen of its popular tallboy.
However, in case that happens, safely expect the sportier version to have an edgier body kit and less chrome. The new-generation Wagon R is already on sale in the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM).
The latest version of this tallboy boasts a modern design, a long list of features, and better safety equipment. The India-bound new-gen model won’t look exactly like the JDM-spec car, but will definitely share the platform. It will also get most of the features that are available abroad.
This hatchback has been a highly successful brand for Maruti Suzuki. In it’s second-generation here, the car continues to impress many with its practicality and frugality. However, it has started to age really fast and an all-new model can definitely help the company find more buyers.

Maruti Wagon R 2019- Interior
Even the interior of the new Wagon R will be totally different from the current model. The next generation will offer much more space and even higher practicality. It will be also made up of better quality materials.
The highlight of the dashboard will be a touchscreen infotainment unit that will further elevate the premium feel of the cabin. Also, the buttons and the knobs will have a much better feel to them. Other than this, the cabin will not only offer more space but will also be more flexible to carry additional luggage.
Unlike the current version, which has a black-beige cabin, the next generation car will have an all-black treatment. The Stingray version, if it makes to India, will have red accents to add a touch of sportiness.
