In this post, I am comparing the new Maruti Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios on the basis of features, price, specs, mileage and more. Both these are extremely popular hatchbacks in the Indian market. On one hand, we have the Swift. It is one of the highest-selling vehicles ever in our market. The latest iteration is the fourth-generation model. On the other hand, Hyundai has also been offering the i10 in India for a long time now. These two are fierce rivals but the Swift is clearly the more popular of the two. Let us delve into the details of this comparison.
New Maruti Swift vs Hyundai Grand i10 Nios – Price Comparison
For this case, I will be looking at the Maruti Swift Zxi trim which costs Rs 8.29 lakh and the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Asta which retails for Rs 7.99 lakh, ex-showroom. These are higher trims of both cars which ensure that the customers will get almost every feature and amenity associated with the respective vehicle. Hence, it will be a fair comparison to figure out which vehicle has an edge over the other in terms of features, safety and powertrain-transmission combinations at comparable price points. In fact, the Swift Zxi version could be had with an AMT transmission for an additional Rs 50,000. On the other hand, the Grand i10 Nios Asta offers the AMT iteration with an additional amount of Rs 57,000.
Price Comparison | Maruti Swift (Zxi) | Hyundai Grand i10 Nios (Asta) | Difference |
MT | Rs 8.29 lakh | Rs 7.99 lakh | Rs 30,000 |
AMT | Rs 8.79 lakh | Rs 8.56 lakh | Rs 23,000 |

The new Maruti Swift is not only fresh from the outside and inside but also from under the hood. This time around, the Swift gets a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z12E petrol engine with a mild hybrid setup which produces 82 PS and 112 Nm of peak power and torque. There are options of choosing between either a 5-speed manual or an AMT automatic gearbox. What has been the topic of discussion with the new Swift is its impressive 24.8 kmpl mileage in the manual and 25.75 kmpl mileage in the AMT version. People looking for a car with low running costs would definitely appreciate it. Furthermore, it has a ground clearance of 163 mm and a boot capacity of 265 L.
On the other hand, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios comes with a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine which generates an almost similar 83 PS and 113.8 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine comes with the option of either a 5-speed manual or a Smart Auto AMT gearbox. Additionally, the Grand i10 Nios is also offered in the CNG avatar which outputs 69 PS and 95.2 Nm of peak power and torque. The CNG is for those who want low running costs for their vehicles. Features Comparison
Most potential new car owners prefer to have the latest tech, convenience, connectivity, and safety features. In today’s age, new cars come with tons of modern amenities to pamper the buyers. That is true for both of these cars. Swift being the newer of the two offers a new update in the form of 6 airbags as standard across its range. That should give an immense boost to the safety prowess and capabilities of the hatchback. Similarly, Hyundai had already announced last year that all its cars in all their models will have 6 airbags as standard. Clearly, the two largest carmakers in the country are focusing on safety. That is necessary today since people are conscious of this aspect. The top highlights of the new Swift include:

Our View
Both these vehicles are compelling products in this segment. It is a mass market segment which a lot of buyers prefer. It attracts first-time buyers, as well as people who want to upgrade from an entry-level car. Therefore, people get to experience slightly more premium amenities in comparison to compact hatchbacks. In terms of these two variants, there are distinct strengths and weaknesses. On one hand, the Swift Zxi is the second top variant which offers tons of connectivity, safety and convenience features. However, you will need to spend Rs 30,000 extra.
On the other hand, the Asta is the top model of the Hyundai Grand i10. As a result, you can experience the best of what the Korean automaker has to offer in terms of cabin functionalities and safety features. Apart from that, Grand i10 Nios is the only one of these two which offers the customers the option of a CNG mill. Even in the regular version, it comes with all the bells and whistles at Rs 30,000 less. However, the one issue could be the mileage. In comparison to the Swift, the mileage figures of both manual and AMT trims of the i10 Nios are significantly lower. Hence, if you want a car with low running costs, opting for the Swift makes sense. However, if you want to save some money and still get decent features, Grand i10 Nios should be the way to go. In any case, you can’t go wrong with either of these.
