After the launch of the new Maruti Swift (fourth-generation), people possess the option of choosing between many vehicles in its price vicinity including its larger sibling, the Baleno. While both of these might belong to the largest carmaker in the country, the price overlap can certainly confuse potential buyers. The new Swift has created a lot of buzz in the market due to its new engine, incredible mileage figure of 25.75 kmpl, new aesthetics and modern features. On the other hand, Baleno is the highest-selling premium hatchback in the country by a mile. It has been at the top since its inception. For now, let us compare the similarly-priced variants of the two.
New Maruti Swift vs Baleno – Price Comparison
For this comparison, I have chosen the Zxi+ DT version of the new Swift. It has an on-road price of Rs 10.25 lakh. In essence, this is the top version with manual transmission. Hence, one would be able to get all the bells and whistles. For the AMT version, buyers will need to spend an extra Rs 50,000. On the other hand, for the Baleno, I have selected the Alpha trim which has an on-road price of Rs 10.50 lakh. Even this is the top model in the manual range. Hence, bears a premium of just Rs 25,000. Just like the Swift, buyers can pay an additional Rs 50,000 to get the AMT.

Our View
Both these vehicles are closely tied in terms of specifications, features, prices and more. The proximity of prices is what warrants this comparison. However, there are specific use cases for both these cars. On one hand, people looking for a vehicle with ultra-low running costs and high mileage can go for the Swift. Needless to say, you will end up saving some money as well. On the other hand, if you want a vehicle with more features and can stretch your budget a little, opting for the Baleno makes perfect sense. Just remember, you can’t go wrong with either of these alternatives.
