The new Maruti Swift has recently been launched in India as I compare it to the old model in this post. We find the mighty Swift in its fourth-generation avatar at the moment. Having been around since 2005, the fact that its demand is still at an all-time high is a testament to its popularity and appeal. I was able to find a video by Preetam soni on YouTube. It captures the old and the new models adjacent to each other. This gives me a great opportunity to compare the two. So, without any further ado, let us get into it.

The new Swift comes with tons of modern equipment and a new powertrain. The old Swift had the 1.2-litre 4-cylinder K Series engine which generated 90 PS and 113 Nm of peak power and torque. However, the new Swift comes with a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine which produces 82 PS and 112 Nm of peak power and torque. It can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT automatic transmission. This new engine offers a mileage of 25.75 kmpl in the AMT trim and 24.8 kmpl in the manual version.
In terms of exterior styling, there are some elements which set the two apart. At the front of the old Swift, you had a chrome bar placed on the grille. That is gone in the new Swift which now gets a larger grille with a gloss black finish. The headlamp and taillamp designs are slightly tweaked as well. On the sides, the latest Swift gets a new set of alloy wheels and the door handles are placed at the traditional position in comparison to the C-pillar on the previous-gen model. All in all, while the overall silhouette might be similar, there are distinct design cues to separate the two.
Our View
I understand that it can seem like there have not been revolutionary changes to the new Maruti Swift in comparison to the old model. However, that is not exactly true. The thing is that the old-gen model was already mighty popular and successful. Hence, there was not a high need to alter it, to begin with. That is why the biggest change we see is under the hood. The new engine offers incredible mileage, which is what most people care about. On top of that, the 6 airbags across the range is a huge bonus. I feel all these updates make the new Swift even more desirable than before.
