The new Maruti Swift safety rating is a hot topic among the masses as they await the official NCAP rating. Swift is arguably the most popular mid-size hatchback in the country ever. It was first introduced in India back in 2005. In the last 19 years of existence, we have seen four generational changes. Nevertheless, what’s the most impressive thing about the Swift is that it continues to be among the highest-selling vehicles month after month even in its current fourth-generation version. While the Bharat NCAP test score for the new Swift is not available yet, it has already been tested on the Japanese NCAP. Let us take a look at the details of that test.
New Maruti Swift Safety Rating
Note that the Japanese model of the Suzuki Swift bears some distinctions from the Indian version. The former comes with tons of active safety features including ADAS which incorporates Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, etc. As a result, the Suzuki Swift bagged a respectable 4-star safety rating. The procedure is a bit detailed there which takes into account a myriad of functions. In total, the Suzuki Swift was able to secure 177.8 points out of a possible 197, which is quite impressive.
This video showcases the visuals of the crash test. It involves multiple tests including autonomous emergency braking when a pedestrian or a cyclist appears on the road suddenly. This test was also conducted during the nighttime to ensure its efficiency in low-visibility scenarios. Thereafter, the testing agency arranged the frontal impact crash, partial frontal impact crash, side collision test, lane keep assist test, and test for the head of the pedestrian, as well as their leg. The hatchback managed to perform decently well in all these departments.
New Maruti Swift Safety Rating Adult Occupant Protection
As mentioned before, the new Maruti Swift undertook multiple tests. Among these, the tests involving collisions bagged ‘B’ grade safety rating for the hatchback. This is judged based on the score of 81.1 points out of 100. These include a full frontal crash at 55 km/h, a frontal offset crash test at 64 km/h, a side impact crash test at 55 km/h, and a rear-end collision test to evaluate potential neck injuries. In the full frontal crash, the car bagged 9.82 points out of a total of 12 for driver protection and 11.22 points out of 12 for the front passenger protection.
Apart from that, in the frontal offset impact test, it scored a decent 10.4 points out of 12 for driver protection. However, in the rear passenger protection category, it only managed to score 7.66 points out of 12. Impressively, it bagged full marks for passenger protection in the side collision tests and 11.07 points out of 12 for passenger neck injury prevention in rear-end collisions.
New Maruti Swift Safety Rating Pedestrian Protection
Another key component in the crash test rating is pedestrian protection. In this regard, a dummy of the head is hit against the bonnet of the car. This time around, the pedestrian head protection score was 2.7 points out of 4 while the passenger seat belt reminder score was 2.8 points out of 3.6. On the other hand, the car scored full points for pedestrian leg protection and its emergency call system, which is not to be automatically activated in the case of an accident.

New Maruti Swift Safety Rating Preventive Safety
The Japanese Suzuki Swift offers ADAS functions to enhance the active safety prowess. It is becoming common in new cars. However, the Indian-spec model doesn’t come with ADAS. This video showcased these functions on full display in real-world conditions. The vehicle was able to steer back into its lane automatically once it recognized the tires drifting on the other side of the lane marking. Also, the autonomous emergency braking was in full force as soon as it detected obstacles on the road. It is fascinating to see how quickly the electronics respond to a situation in comparison to humans. As a result, the Swift scored almost perfect 88.7 points out of a possible 89 on the preventive safety performance front leading to an ‘A’ grade.
New Maruti Swift Safety Features
The list of safety amenities on the new Maruti Swift is quite extensive. This is the first time ever that the Swift gets 6 airbags as standard across the range. It ensures that regardless of which variant you choose, you will always get the best safety equipment. Hence, the owners will never have to compromise on safety. The top highlights include:
- 6 Airbags

Our View
The new Maruti Swift safety rating theme has been running since the launch of the fourth-generation model. Now that the Indian cars have moved to the indigenous Bharat NCAP scoring system, it is about time that the Swift is tested on this system. Note that it is based on the updated Global NCAP procedures. The largest carmaker in the country has confirmed that it will send many of its hot-selling models for crash test. We shall have to wait a bit longer to see how well the new Swift performs. If the JNCAP score is anything to go by, the new Swift might score well on the Bharat NCAP too.
