Come festive season this year and Maruti Suzuki will launch the New Ertiga 2018 in India. The second generation Maruti Ertiga is going to get a completely new exterior profile. Not only this, but the cabin of this 7-seater MPV will feature a refreshed look as well.
The new generation 2018 Ertiga (codename: YHA) will be underpinned by the new HEARTECT platform of the latest Dzire. The next-gen car will continue to offer 7 seats and a comfortable cabin. The new generation Dzire is considerably lighter than its previous generation. Hence, one can safely expect the new Ertiga to be significantly lighter than the current model. A lower kerb weight and a stiffer chassis will lead to higher fuel mileage and better driving dynamics. The new car is likely to be more spacious and feature-laden than its current avatar. Many bits of the interior, such as the dashboard, steering wheel and instrument console, will come from the new Dzire. Also, the new Maruti Ertiga 2018 will boast Suzuki’s excellent SmartPlay infotainment unit with a 7-inch touchscreen interface.

Engine options for the 2018 Ertiga will comprise of the current 1.4-litre K-series Petrol engine and the much awaited all-new 1.5-litre Turbo Diesel motor from Suzuki. The Ertiga SHVS Diesel recently saw a huge increase in its price due to the changes in the tax structures owing to the introduction of GST. Hence, the all-new Ertiga is likely to miss out on the SHVS to escape the high taxation on the hybrids. We’re not sure but the manufacturer might even decide to offer the 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine from the Baleno RS in the petrol variant. We drove the Baleno RS on the Buddh International Circuit. You can read our test drive review by clicking on this hyperlinked text. There’s also an all-new 1.5-litre petrol engine on the cards but nothing is clear at the moment.

New Maruti Ertiga 2018 Launch Date
Launch Date (expected) | October 2018 |
Speculations are rife that the new generation Ertiga will launch in India during the festive season next year. The manufacturer is yet to start testing the new model, but we won’t be too surprised to see the new Ertiga in its concept version at the Auto Expo 2018 (Fingers crossed!). The Ertiga was first launched in 2012 and has been posting class-leading sales numbers ever since. However, age is fast catching up and Maruti realizes the need to launch an all-new model to maintain its sales lead over the competition.
Currently, the Ertiga enjoys a free run of sorts. It may be noted here that the Honda Mobilio has been discontinued owing to terribly low sales numbers. Also, the rather utilitarian Mahindra Xylo doesn’t pose any direct threat to the Ertiga. However, with competition bound to increase in future, it’s only wise to launch an all-new model to keep things fresh.

New Maruti Ertiga 2018 Price in India
Minimum Price | Rs 6.75 Lakh |
Maximum Price | Rs 11.00 Lakh |
Thanks to a modern platform, new features and new-age engines, the next Ertiga could command a slight premium over the current model. Currently, the Ertiga range has a starting price of Rs 6.15 lakh. The top-of-the-line model costs roughly Rs 10.45 lakh. The new generation Ertiga is likely to have a starting price of roughly Rs 6.75 lakh (ex-showroom). The top-end model could cost something around the Rs 11.00 lakh mark.
Maruti Suzuki is known to price its cars ultra-competitively. Things shouldn’t change with the advent of the new Maruti Ertiga 2018. True, prices are bound to increase but the new car will justify the premium by offering better driving dynamics, modern engines and more features. The Ertiga enjoys a high popularity amongst both private car buyers and fleet operators. In all chances, the all-new Ertiga too will appeal to both the segments of car buyers.
New Maruti Ertiga 2018 Engine Specifications
Petrol | 1.4-litre K-series Petrol/1.0 Boosterjet/1.5-litre 4-cylinder Naturally Aspirated |
Diesel | 1.5-litre Turbocharged Diesel |
The all-new Ertiga will offer Petrol and Diesel engine options. While the petrol model will get the same 1.4-litre K-series engine that powers the current version, the Diesel variant will get the much awaited Suzuki’s 1.5-litre Turbo Diesel motor. Currently, the Ertiga, akin to other models in Maruti’s lineup, come with a Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre Multijet Diesel engine. The next generation Ertiga is very likely to get an all-new Diesel engine that Suzuki has been busy developing. This will ensure that Maruti no longer outsources Diesel engines from Fiat. This will further help the manufacturer price its car ultra-competitively.
It doesn’t look like the next-gen model would offer the SHVS mild-hybrid technology. So far, speculations are rife that the petrol engine for the new Ertiga will be a re-tuned version of the current car’s 1.4-litre unit. However, we won’t be too surprised to see Maruti offering the excellent 1.0 Boosterjet engine in the petrol variants. This turbo petrol motor is currently available only with the Baleno RS. Also, a few media reports even suggest that the Ertiga 2018 could get the upcoming 1.5-litre Petrol engine that the facelifted versions of the Ciaz and the Ertiga are rumoured to get. Transmission options should include 5-speed Manual and AMT units for both Petrol and Diesel models.
New Maruti Ertiga 2018 Mileage
Petrol | 21 KMPL* |
Diesel | 26 KMPL* |
*estimated
Maruti is known to offer cars that are high on frugality. Going by this tradition, even the next generation Maruti Ertiga is likely to offer stellar fuel mileage figures. While the petrol engine could offer an ARAI-tested mileage of as much as 21 KMPL, the Diesel engine might offer a peak mileage of 26 KMPL. This figure could see a boost in case Maruti decides to use the SHVS mild hybrid system available on the current Ertiga. It is noteworthy here that the hybrid cars have seen a considerable price increase since the introduction of GST. Hence, Maruti could decide against offering this system on the Ertiga to keep the costs competitive.
New Maruti Ertiga 2018 Features
The new model Maruti Ertiga 2018 will offer many more features than the current model. Currently, the Ertiga offers 2 airbags, rear aircon vents and the SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment unit. The next generation model will offer all this and more. Here’s what we think the new model will offer-
- AMT
- SmartPlay Infotainment
- Carplay and Android Auto
- Dual Front Airbags
- ABS with EBD
- HEARTECT Platform
- Push Button Start-stop
- Keyless Entry

New Maruti Ertiga 2018 Exterior Design
The current Ertiga is based on the current India-spec Swift’s platform. The 2018 Ertiga, however, will be based on the next generation 2018 Maruti Swift’s and the new Dzire’s HEARTECT platform. Thanks to the new platform, the new generation Ertiga will be lighter, safer and even more fuel efficient. Talking about the design, the new Ertiga takes many design cues from the new generation, Swift. This means that in all probability the new generation of the MPV will look fresh with hints of sportiness.
It is likely to get a similar hexagonal grille and swept-back stylish headlamps. The headlamps will have DRLs and projector setups. Also, the front-end will look pretty radical compared to the current model’s nose. In its side profile, the car will have clean lines and neat surfaces. The car will have a large DLO (Daylight Opening) area. This will lead to a feeling of airiness on the inside. Also, the car will have stylish alloy wheels. The rear-end is likely to look as modern as the front. It will have stylish wrap-around taillamps and a rather large rear windscreen. Top-end models will get a roof-mounted spoiler. Expect the new Ertiga to get liberal services of chrome for the top-end models.
New Maruti Ertiga 2018 Interior Design
Quite obviously, the cabin of the new generation Ertiga MPV will be more premium and feature-laden than that of the current car. Even the 2018 Ertiga’s cabin will have a 7-seat layout. The car will offer flexible seating options. Thanks to a large greenhouse, the cabin will offer a sense of airiness. Based on the new-generation Swift’s platform, the 2018 Ertiga will be wider and hence, more spacious. It will offer many more features and richer upholstery. The dashboard and steering wheel will come from the new Dzire. Even the design of door pads will be inspired by those of the compact sedan. Expect a full beige interior with faux wood inserts. Features list will include bits like keyless entry and go, dual front airbags, touchscreen infotainment and flexible seating options.
