While the latest Maruti Dzire was strictly meant for private buyers, things don’t seem to be going as per the plan
In this post, we get a look at the new Maruti Dzire which wears a taxi number plate. Dzire is among the most successful sedans in the country ever. It has been around for close to 3 decades now. Over the years, it found applications among private buyers, as well as commercial fleet operators. In fact, we see a lot of H Tour variants of the Maruti cars which are specifically made for taxi operators. However, as Maruti Suzuki tries to upscale its Dzire compact sedan, it wants to move away from the image of being a taxi car.
New Maruti Dzire with Taxi Plates
This video clip comes from Raftaar 7811 on YouTube. This channel often features content around car crashes or new car spottings. On this occasion, the visuals capture a white-coloured Maruti Dzire with a yellow number plate. This signifies that the owner is using it as a taxi. This is somewhere in Rajasthan according to the registration plate. Now it is quite fascinating to see that people are still using it as a taxi even though the company doesn’t offer the commercial version of the compact sedan.
The main reasons for this include its reliability, high mileage, low running costs and the option of a CNG mill. All these contribute towards making it an ideal candidate in terms of great and inexpensive ownership experience. In its latest avatar, it comes with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol mill which churns out 82 PS and 112 Nm of peak power and torque. There are options of choosing between either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. The mileage ranges from 24.8 km/l for the manual to 25.75 km/l for the AMT. The prices range from Rs 6.84 lakh to Rs 10.19 lakh, ex-showroom.

My View
Maruti Suzuki made a commendable decision to not offer a taxi version of the Dzire from the factory. However, it can’t stop people from using it as a taxi. This is interesting since it wants to get away from the image of being a commercial vehicle. In fact, that is why the Japanese car giant made it different from the Swift. Also, there are tons of new-age amenities along with a full 5-star Global NCAP safety rating. It remains to be seen how many more taxi versions of the Maruti Dzire we will see in times to come.
