The new look Hyundai Verna 2017 is less than a week away from its India launch. For those who came in late, the new model Verna will launch on August-22, 2017. Bookings for the new car already open across all Hyundai India official dealerships. While we did have a short test drive of the car earlier this month, we’ve finally got hold of the car’s features list through a copy of the brochure. The brochure has even revealed the car’s technical specifications. The 2017 model of Hyundai’s popular C-segment sedan receives its two engine options from the earlier car- 1.6-litre Petrol and 1.6-litre Diesel. While the Petrol engine outputs 121 BHP, the Diesel engine offers as much as 126 BHP. It’s said that these engines have been fine tuned to offer better mileage than before. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. Basically, the new look Hyundai Verna offers a lot more than just a fresher interior and exterior.

The new look Hyundai Verna 2017 looks radical and very attractive. If you compare the design of this car with those of the Maruti Ciaz and the Honda City, the Korean sedan ends up looking a lot fresher and sporty. It won’t be wrong to say that the new Verna 2017 looks a lot like a slightly smaller sibling of the latest generation Elantra. Highlights of the car’s design include sleek headlamps with a projector setup and LED daytime running lights, cascade-effect front grille, diamond cut alloy wheels, steeply raking roofline, LED taillamps and chrome accents on the boot-lid.
Even the interior of the new car is a lot more modern and attractive than that of the outgoing car. There will be many new features to enhance comfort and convenience of the passengers. The top-end SX(O) trim will offer a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the Auto Link Smartphone connectivity app. This unit also offers Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror Link facilities. Other features of this advanced infotainment system include audio-video navigation and voice recognition. Other features highlights of the new car include cruise control, ventilated front seats, 6 airbags, and an eco coating on the AC evaporator to check odour. Even the lower-spec models will offer features like a 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-airbags and ABS with EBD.

The new look Verna, other than having a higher aesthetic appeal, also offers more interior space. This is due to the larger dimensions. The new car is as much as 15mm longer and 29mm wider than the outgoing model. The wheelbase is longer by a full 10 mm. All this has translated into an airier cabin with more space for passengers. The boot space is higher by 16-litres. That said, the new Verna 2017 doesn’t seem to be as spacious as the Maruti Ciaz. The Ciaz is currently the most spacious car in its segment and it remains to be seen how well the new Verna will be able to fare in terms of interior space. The new Verna is just 10 KGs heavier, in spite of being larger and having more features. A large part of this is due to the new K2 platform that this car uses. The modern platform is not just lightweight but also offers higher rigidity and hence, improved safety. The chassis is now stiffer and the suspension is also much better.

Hyundai India will launch the 2017 model of the Verna on August-22, 2017. The next gen Hyundai Verna will be a complete model replacement for the current car. All this means that the generation sedan will not only look a lot fresher but will also offer better performance, more features and higher safety. Once a segment-leader, this Korean sedan was seen losing out to both the new generation Honda City and the Maruti Ciaz. With the introduction of the all-new version, however, Hyundai will hope to have a better sales performance in the C-segment.

Official price list of the new look Hyundai Verna 2017 will be made available only on the launch date, i.e. on August-22, 2017. However, chances are that the prices of this car will start at Rs 9 lakh. The top-end Diesel trim could cost as much as Rs 14 lakh. It’s pretty much for sure that the prices will be higher than those of the current model. However, the increase in price will be justified through a more modern exterior and interior look, more features, updated engines, and higher interior space. It’s pretty much for sure that the new Verna, in spite of a price increase, will come across as a much more stylish model than both the Honda City and the Maruti Ciaz. However, it remains to be seen if the car is good enough to make prospective buyers ignore the pricing edge that the Ciaz might hold.
Warranty- In line with HMIL’s warranty policy, the new car will offer a basic warranty of 2 years and unlimited kilometres of mileage. This can be extended by purchasing extended warranty at nominal costs.

The new generation Hyundai Verna comes with two engines that come from the last-generation car. That said, these motors have been suitable retuned to offer better performance and mileage. The two engine options on offer are- 1.6-litre, Naturally Aspirated, 4-cylinder petrol and a 1.6-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder Diesel. While the Petrol engine benefits from Variable timing technology, the Diesel engine comes with a variable geometry turbo. Both these engines offer high power and torque outputs. While the petrol engine generates 123 BHP and 155 Nm, the Diesel engine produces 126 BHP and 260 Nm. Both the engines come mated to 6-speed Manual and Automatic gearboxes.
Another highlight of the new car’s specifications is what Hyundai calls ‘SUPER BODY STRUCTURE’. In essence, the new look Hyundai Verna comes with an Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS) body structure that is made from Hot stamping Applications. This helps the new car offer a best-in-class rigidity. This special body structure also helps the car to have a low kerb weight, which in turn optimizes performance and mileage.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd is yet to announce the ARAI-test mileage figures of the new generation car. However, given the fact that the engines come from the old model, we have a fair idea of the kind of mileage these two motors can offert. We are hoping the Diesel engine to have a peak mileage of 22 KMPL, while the Petrol engine should have roughly 18 KMPL. Thanks to a higher power output and displacement, chances are slim that the Verna would be as fuel efficient as the Ciaz. However, the car is still likely to offer respectable mileage figures for the kind of performance it offers.

The new generation 2017 Verna sedan’s design is based on Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. The new car looks much more modern and stylish. The current model of the Verna has impressed many with its radical styling. The next gen Verna should similarly impress with its design. We say this as the new car looks better sculpted and a lot fresher.
The front-end of the new Verna is characterized by a hexagonal grille that is typical of all modern-day Hyundai cars. The bumper looks sporty and the sleek headlamps lend this car a pretty athletic touch. The car’s front-end is definitely a lot more upmarket now. The side profile is also all-new. That said, there’s still a touch of the last-generation Verna here. However, taut surfaces and bold creases, together with the stylish alloys, help the car look modern and attractive. At the rear, the twin-pod taillamps lend the new model Verna an Elantra-like rear-end. The rear bumper also looks sporty but we’ve got a feeling that the 2017 Verna will suffer from a high loading lip for the boot.

Akin to the car’s exterior, even its interior is totally new. The cabin has a fresh design and many new features that go on to catch your fancy. The dashboard has a very attractive design. Taking centre-stage here is the new touchscreen infotainment unit. The centre stash impresses with its minimalistic design. The steering wheel feels sporty to hold and its rim has just the right amount of thickness. The aricon vents flank the infotainment unit and there triangle shape lends the dashboard a rather sporty touch. The vents on the two extreme corners of the dashboard are trapezoidal in shape.
The new Verna is both longer and wider than the last-generation model. All this has translated into a roomier cabin. The car offers higher legroom and the rear seat can comfortably seat three people in considerable comfort. We’re quite sure that the cabin of the new car will impress with the higher space and more features.
