New Hyundai Verna Petrol vs Old Verna Diesel Drag Race
This video comes from Race Buddy on YouTube. The YouTuber has three iterations of the Verna from the yesteryears – a 1.6-litre diesel, a 1.5-litre diesel and the latest 1.5-litre turbo petrol. For the first round, he puts the 1.5 turbo petrol in Normal mode and turns its AC on. The AC of the 1.6-litre diesel was OFF. As soon as they accelerate, the 1.6-litre diesel takes the lead. However, the 1.5 turbo petrol trim soon caught up and remained ahead for the entire race. In subsequent rounds, they tried various tweaks with AC, drive modes and even switched the drivers, but the 1.5 turbo petrol emerged as a clear victor. They even did a rolling acceleration test. The driver of the 1.5 turbo petrol was able to clock 205 km/h top speed.

What We Think
In recent times, YouTubers have shown growing interest in utilizing drag races as a method to assess and compare the performance of various cars. Nevertheless, it’s crucial to acknowledge that depending solely on drag races for these evaluations may not be the most prudent approach. This caution arises from the potential for drag races to inflict lasting damage on vehicles, as most cars are not designed for prolonged, high-speed, straight-line racing. Consequently, we highly discourage attempting drag races with your own car. In practice, the majority of drivers refrain from pushing their cars to such extreme limits, primarily due to safety concerns.
