The new Hyundai Santro will take up the place as the entry-level model for Hyundai in India. It will replace the ageing Eon and is going to be bigger and wider than the competition.
By the end of this year, the entry-level hatchback segment, which is currently facing a slow pace, is about to get back up its feet. Hyundai Motor India is likely to launch, or rather re-launch the Santro moniker in India soon. The South Korean automaker is currently working on an all-new entry-level car for our country. Speculations suggest that this new vehicle will be named as the Santro. And hence mark the comeback of India’s one of the best selling cars. The previous generation Santro went out of production in December 2018.
According to a report published in Business Standard, Hyundai is likely to launch the new Santro in India during October 2018. The company has already begun testing the prototype of this vehicle on our roads with several sighting reported recently. The report further states that this new small car from Hyundai is going to be bigger and wider than its competition.

The 2018 model year Santro will replace the Eon from Hyundai model line-up. Despite being an entry-level product, expect this car to have the best-in-segment features and material quality. Range-topping models could feature creature comforts like a touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, electrically operated ORVMs among other features.

So far, there is no concrete information on the design of the new Hyundai Santro. However, going by the spy shots it is quite clear that this car is based Hyundai Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. As a result of this, it features sharp character lines. While at the same time has enough curves to give it a premium appeal. Talking about the car’s interior profile, it will feature a basic yet stylish dashboard design. Spy shots indicate that the cabin will have an all-black colour scheme.

We are expecting this new Hyundai Santro to meet the upcoming safety regulations. Hence, right from the base variant onwards, it will have dual-airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors as standard across the range. In addition to this, top-end models might also get reverse parking camera.
Talking about the engine specifications, we expect this car to feature Hyundai’s 1.1-litre, 4-cylinder Kappa VTVT petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing 68BHP of power along with 100 NM of peak torque. Just like the i10, the Santro’s top-end variant will have the option of a 1.2-litre petrol engine. This unit will produce 78 BHP of power along with 111Nm of peak torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox will make its appearance as standard. The Santro is likely to be Hyundai’s first car in India to feature an AMT gearbox.
Since this new Hyundai Santro is essentially going to be an entry-level product for the automaker, we expect the prices to start from INR 3.5 lakh. While the top-end models can go up to INR 5.5 lakh.
